Andrew Kreisberg Reveals Which SUPERMAN Easter Egg They Cut From THE FLASH

If you've already seen the pilot episode of The Flash, you'll know that it's packed full of Easter Eggs which may just give us an idea what to expect from The CW series moving forwards. Now, Andrew Kreisberg reveals what they can and can't use, including a pretty major reference to Superman!

WARNING: Spoilers For The Flash's Pilot Follow. Marvel Studios have mastered the art of the Easter Egg, but The Flash's pilot did a pretty damn good job of teasing a number of future villains and storylines for The CW series. A poster was recently released which actually featured a number of those and more (you can check that out by clicking here), and while the final few moments of the spin-off's first episode revealed that Bruce Wayne does indeed exist in this world, the team working on the series are still having to be careful over what they can and can't include. Talking at The CW's PaleyFest Fall TV Preview, Andrew Kreisberg revealed that there was one reference to Superman's world in the pilot which they were quick to remove! "There was actually a crazy big one where we looked at each other and were like, 'We can’t do that! The feature people will hunt us down.' The Flash was running down the street and he literally ran past Luther Corp. They were all sitting there like, 'Is it okay?,' and we were like, 'No, you can’t do that!'" Of course, Luther Corp was the name of Lex Luthor's company in Smallville, but it's clear that nods to major members of the big screen Justice League are still foff limits for the time being.

However, why then can they mention Ferris Air from Green Lantern? Could that rumoured team-up movie featuring the Emerald Crusader and the Scarlet Speedster be some sort of big screen continuation of The Flash's TV series? Probably not, but it's food for thought! Kreisberg would then add this when asked how they managed to sneak in that reference to Batman's world. "There’s one thing they let us put in there.  In the newspaper, it’s so small, but Geoff Johns said it was okay ‘cause the paper is from 10 years in the future, it says, “Queen Consolidated/Wayne Enterprises Merger Completed.”  We figured that was the kind of thing where, once people saw it, they would freeze-frame it to look at the rest.  As with both Arrow and The Flash, there are all these Easter eggs.  Especially in upcoming episodes when The Flash is running through the streets, a lot of the times, the entire environment is digital.  It’s not just The Flash, it’s the buildings and everything.  It’s just all one big CG image, and the animators have had fun with that.  There have been billboards that say, “Palmer Technologies,” which is Brandon Routh’s character on Arrow.  And there’s Big Belly Burger, which is now a national chain that existed in Arrow.  Part of the fun of reading a comic book is when you’re reading a Batman comic, and then you turn the page and Superman shows up.  Both of these shows exist in the same world and they connect to each other." I'm so happy the universes are separate. TV and Film don't always mix or blend well, especially with CBM's.
SHIELD got better but it will always be the MCCU bitch.
I think they know this and are going for a more separate and detached approach with the Netflix series.

Flash can run freely, pun intended, and not always be subjected to what happens in the films.

You know i would have rather a feature film of The Flash rather than a tv show. I'm also happy that the tv universe is separate from the film's universe.

I kind of wish the Batman easter egg was cut out too, because it seems that Arrow & Flash are the CWverses Worlds Finest, their Batman & Superman which I think is a angle to take those characters as they can realistically both fit in those roles. Having Bruce Wayne exist kind of lessens the effect of this.

Piss poor example at the end. Not to start a flame war, but it's disrespectful not to give this nod to Marvel since they've maintained their continuity since day one from the early 60s. DC didn't even attempt this with their entire universe until the 80s. Yes, the Justice league did exist in those early days, but the continuity wasn't continued in the separate books anything close to what Marvel was doing. That's just the facts, don't kill the messenger.

Agree with @ Cherry. Don't like the idea of TV and film blending.

I just believe that DC is just playing it safe until the time is right to possibly connect the dots with the movies and TV. I don't think it safe to start introducing Easter eggs before the DCCU has truly establish itself with a strong foundation. Right now they're just breaking ground. Who knows.

Why do the shows have to be connected to the films except for the sake of giving fans the "continuity boner". Agents of SHIELD and the Netflix series are always going to be subservient to the films, you think Daredevil is going to shake up the status quo of Iron Man or Thor? Hell no, does that mean it'll be a lesser show for it? As long as the script, acting and action are good I honestly couldn't give less of a [frick].

I don't know why you people keep harping on and on about these things that are novelties at best and touting them as this requirement just perplexes me.

Arrow & Flash are the Batman and Superman of this CW universe of DC characters, making them canon to the Man of Steel universe only lessens their current importance. Now if CW had like 10 million or more viewers would DC consider this? Probably would, but the fact is only a couple million people view Arrow on its best day, that's no where near enough to justify any sort of inclusion except to give fans the "continuity boner".

I've always seen Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D being the hungry dog at the table which collects the bread crumbs of the owners (MCU).

In all honesty I wanted the shows to be connected to the overall DCCU. But at this point I've realized that WB isn't going to roll like that, so I've correctly sat on my thumb and watched patiently at what they have planned. Because I realized that 10 times out of 10, what I want will NOT be what I get.

I like that the shows aren't connected to the movies.... It works for AOS, but I would want different characters casted in the DCCU, hopefully we see a real The Flash movie and a real Green Arrow movie eventually, both characters have so much movie potential, especially The Flash

Its pretty sad and pathetic when a company puts so many limits on its own work....they own the rights to all these characters yet they wont allow them to work together like they do in the comics. I will never understand why they do that, it seems pretty asinine to me. They have this great thing and they purposely go in and chop it to bits to keep it from becoming awesome. They refuse to allow the use of the trilogy of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, yet all 3 have appeared on TV before...it seems like they just are trying very hard to keep their stories from being cool. They purposely are trying to keep it from be amazing. Defies all logic.

I see WB's stupid policies are alive and well in regards to the film/tv relationship. So limiting and based on ancient marketing research. I REALLY hope WB gets sold and soon. I dont even care if it is Disney. I am so tired of WB making DC look bad

MantiniumMan- so by that logic are you saying the comics should be separate universes?

WB
Darth258

But if the two universes are not connected what's the point of keeping characters away from it?
If they are separated we can easyly have two Luthor or others, i don't think people will get confused, unless one version turns out to be better than the other and so they try to avoid that.
ekrolo2
ekrolo2 - 9/9/2014, 6:55 AM
@hipnosis

So all the characters existing in the shows can't exist in the movies because... why? I mean yeah sure people are gonna get confused but really, that shit already happens with comics. You cannot fathom how many people think The Dark Knight Returns is canon to Batman Beyond and the Nolan films, I'm dead [frick]ing serious about that too.

And not letting the trinity be together? You do know BvS has all 3 of them there, and probably even more guys if the Momoa as Aquaman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg stuff is true.
ekrolo2
ekrolo2 - 9/9/2014, 6:57 AM
@Tevii

The comics used to be entirely separate until JSA happened, people liked the novelty of heroes together on a team and so DC stuck with that and made them all exist in the same universe, even if they were never intended to be that way unlike Marvel's universe which was planned out by a handful of guys who either made it from the ground up or oversaw most of it.

Darth@ To date, Smallville has offered the best Luthor and best Lois Lane, so in that case the tv series characters have made the film characters look average to bad.

I don't understand the whole "feature guys would hunt us down". Warner has made it clear what happens on the television show doesn't tie into the features. Thus -they can create pretty much whatever they want. Not showing that reference to Superman -is a mistake. We should know the character exists in the television world as well. If DC is that concerned about audience confusion -they should had thought about that before making both universes seperate.

Shared or separate each has it advantages and disadvantages.Shared universe adds the ability of drop in cameo/team ups between movie and tv characters but will always have that lingering question of why character a didn't asked character b for an assist plus can ruin movie plot for the sake of continuity. While separate allows show writers freedom from over all limitations set by movie verse plot constraints.

Personally I like to keep the two separate cause I rather the writers have freedom to write the story they want to tell without worrying about if it will interfere with the movie or tv verse.

Unless, being a separate universe, it's an earth without the "top" characters.
Bruce Wayne parents didn't get shot in an alley, Krypton exploded before they launched Kal.. and so on..
