EDITORIAL: Thoughts On The Flash Pilot [SPOILER FREE]

So, the CW's Flash t.v. pilot recently leaked online and I managed to watch it. As a guy who's never read a Flash comic, I figured I'd chip in my two cents regarding the episode and whether or not my interests were peaked. And if you don't wanna be spoiled, read on, because I won't be doing any spoiling!

THOUGHTS  ON  THE FLASH  PILOT

Okay, so as a good proportion of you know, the CW's Flash t.v. pilot just leaked online to the surprise of us all, I think. Like I mentioned in the teaser, I've never read a Flash comic and wouldn't thereby consider myself a fan of the character. But, you didn't come here to hear my comic book preferences, you came to see what I thought of the episode. Well, my fellow comic book fanatics, I was pleasantly surprised.

This pilot has shown me that superpowers can indeed work on the small screen just as well as they do on the big screen. I mean sure, it doesn't look quite as glitzy and all that other stuff, but the special effects on the powered characters certainly gets the job done as far as I'm concerned.

The dialogue held up throughout the episode, despite a few cheesy bits, but I like a bit of cheese with my superhero related stuff, because it's damned well a traditional aspect of the genre. Also, I think all the characters, or at least the key characters have brilliant on screen chemistry and that was a withstanding feature throughout this pilot.

I dunno if I have the right to say the roles are well-cast seeing as how I have no real knowledge of how the Flash is in the books, but I gotta say, Grant Gustin's performance was pretty solid and like I said, there's brilliant on screen chemistry with the characters, especially Barry and Iris I found.

As soon as I found the article on here, contributed by the lovely nailbiter111, I immediately linked it on my Facebook page. A friend of mine said, "Christ that was so genereic, it hurt." I could only respond that as a super hero show, a little generics never hurt anybody. Plus he doesn't read comics , so what would he know!

Anywho, all in all, I have to admit that I was enthralled by the pilot and even found myself squealing with excitement at times, despite not having any real fanatacism for the character, but nonetheless, I really enjoyed this pilot! If you were expecting a dark and gritty crime drama or a super action-y show, this probably won't be the show for you. But if you prefer shows that are fun, quirky and have a nice comic book-y feel to them, then I think this pilot has shown that that's what we'll be in for.

I've been NovaCorpsFan, I hope you enjoyed reading my thoughts on the pilot. What did you guys think? What would you want to see improved or even what would you want to see less of? Be sure to tell me in the comments below, and try to keep it spoiler-free, yeah?

I've got a buddy who's trawling the dregs of the internet trying to find the pilot right now. He took a nap and woke up to the news likely minutes before it got taken down. Obviously he's gutted, but I assured him he wouldn't be disappointed.

It was inevitable that I was going to compare this pilot to Arrow's pilot. And I have to say between the two, The Flash's pilot episode is by far the superior.

Seeing the Grodd sign was great. And even though I'm not a Flash fan, seeing Thawne with Iris was...heartbreaking.

All in all this show has Fringe-like epic potential.

Good job Nova! Yeah, I haven't read a Flash comic since I was a kid (one of my fav DC characters), but I really enjoyed this episode, actually, it was pretty damn awesome...and the cameo (spoiler?) of GA was great as well, many cool easter eggs...I wonder if WB will be forced to air the pilot now sooner rather than later to help prevent so many viewings before it actually premiers in the fall...

Cheers for the suggestions Batmaniac I'll certainly keep those in mind.

And batz, that'd be sweet if they did. But would the whole show run earlier? Y'know, would the pilot be released early, then the rest of the show comes later at the assigned airing date?
batz11
batz11 - 6/24/2014, 7:36 PM
Yeah, not sure? Kinda great for us "fans" to see this early, but feel kinda bad for all the people that worked their asses off, only to have this leak so early...maybe WB will air just the pilot early (like very soon) and have us wait for the fall for the rest? Or, right, air maybe some of the first few eps if they're in the can by now...guess we'll see what fallout we get...

I totally responded to it, man.

Yeah, it must suck to have been working on it. But now, they know if people like it or not and I haven't really seen any negative buzz.

Right, it could actually work in their favor, who know, maybe 'they' leaked it, ha,ha...see what reaction it would get? That'd be a twist, huh?

I'm very intrigued with the shared universe with Arrow, that could really kick that show into another gear too...bring on other cameos like Wayne, Nightwing, etc...wow, I'd take a DCTVU (television universe) and a DCCU...

I'm just not sure a cross-over of the two universes would be a good idea or not (I have turned more into a fan of that idea though, think Amell is awesome as GA, Gustin is great as Barry) but not sure they'd fit with the movie-verse or not...guess we'll see...

@Nova

No, look at Johns and Waid's work primarily before moving into New 52 and Flashpoint territory. There's also Crisis on Infinite Earths. It is not a Flash story though it contains an iconic moment centered around Barry.

The pilot was very satisfying viewing. I watched it twice and could easily watch it again in a few days. Not perfect by any means but on the whole pretty darn great.

I am really looking forward to seeing how the DCU is expanded in this show.

Booster Gold is a high probability.

Yeaahhya!!

it looks like arrow and flash series will part of the dc cinematic universe because in the end it says queen and wayne tech merge
why else say it, if they aren't part of it?

For those who can't find it, it's still up on KAT.

Just finished watching it & my God it's as amazing as Arrow is. Really good pilot.

I GeekGasemed over JWS appearance & where Barry ran to see Oliver.

Seriously, Amell & Gustin NEED to have the movie / Justice League roles of Geeen Arrow & Flash respectively. I really feel they'd fit right in on the big screen along side Affleck, Cavill, Momoa, etc.

Come on WB, DO IT! Tie these shows to the DCCU!

Mind, I still want a WHITE CIRCLE on the costume!
