Extended Synopsis For THE FLASH's Pilot Episode Teases Time Travel Powers For Barry

An extended description for "City of Heroes" has been released, but the synopsis for The Flash's pilot episode also reveals a little more about the future of The CW series as it drops some hints about both the Speed Force and Barry Allen travelling into the past and future...

From the Arrow creative team of executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and director David Nutter, THE FLASH is a fast-paced super hero drama that follows the high-speed adventures of the Fastest Man Alive. Written by Berlanti, Kreisberg and DC Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, the action drama follows Central City Police scientist Barry Allen, an everyday guy with the heart of a hero and the genuine desire to help others. Standing still emotionally since the day his mother was murdered (and his father unjustly jailed for the crime), Barry was taken in as a child by the investigating Detective West and raised in a cop's home alongside West's supersmart daughter (and Barry's dream girl) Iris. But when an unexpected and devastating accident at the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator facility strikes Barry, he finds himself suddenly charged with the incredible power to move at super speeds.

While Barry has always been a hero in his soul, his newfound powers have finally given him the ability to act like one. With the help of the research team at S.T.A.R. Labs -- including billionaire visionary Harrison Wells, biogenetics expert Caitlin Snow and the eternally upbeat Cisco Ramon -- Barry begins testing the limits of his evolving powers and using them to stop crime, ensuring that no one suffers a similar tragedy to his own family history.

Working with his adopted father Detective West; West's conceited partner Detective Eddie Thawne and Iris West, who's earning her degree in Criminal Psychology, Barry uses his superhuman abilities to help the people of Central City and stop the rogues' gallery of villains -- many of whom have also been altered by the particle accelerator explosion. Concealing his identity behind his incredible velocity, Barry can not only accomplish feats faster than human comprehension, but also taps into an energy that allows him to access moments out of time -- both past and future. With a winning personality and a smile on his face, Barry Allen -- aka The Flash -- is finally moving forward in life ... very, very fast!

"Barry can not only accomplish feats faster than human comprehension" sounds a lot like how The Flash' powers were portrayed in the early days of The New 52, while the mention of the character being able to tap into an "energy" must be a nod to the Speed Force, something not even the pilot made clear would be part of this series. Even more interesting than both of these reveals however is the fact that Barry will be able to "access moments out of time - both past and future". The Reverse-Flash has been known to travel through time, but it could be that we'll see The Flash do the same! What are your thoughts on all of this? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts below!

I just re watched the pilot before hearing of the extra 3 mins. I look forward to watching Barry time travel, wonder if this will happen before Impulse.

Time travel. Makes sense regarding the fastest man alive.

So maybe this was the need for extending the pilot? Either way, bring on the time travel (and cosmic treadmill).

@scorpion8125 I think time jumps are lazy storytelling. But time travel in this show I think could work. I suspect Barry will travel into the past to try and save his mother (how did he get so far from the house).

Also curious to how Impulse will be portrayed in the show.

I like that they'll be using Barry's time travel or are at least hinting at it. Time travel is great for superhero stories because they always go with the butterfly effect/time boom, that even because you do something good it leads to something else dramatically changed (good or bad). Hell maybe we can get a tease of Flashpoint in a later season due to Barry's ignorance.

Damn, a 3 episode Flashpoint arc for this show would be awesome...

So, James Gunn just said MODOK has the Time Stone.

WOAH! What if the extra 3 minutes is a flash forward of a future Flash? It'd be shown after that small reveal at the end of the episode.

Did anyone else notice in the pilot when Barrys mom is surrounded by Reverse Flash, u can se his yellow streak along with a red streak following him...Could Flash had gone back to prevent her death , chasing Reverse Flash back through time to that exact moment?

@NovaCorpsFan

Did Gunn really say that about MODOK and the Time stone?

@NovaCorpsFan

We need some clarification. Where and when did James Gunn say that? I hope its not true, because it strains credulity that so many infinity gems would be on Earth. It's a big universe, why would the Tesseract, then the Aether, then the Time Gem all be on Earth at the same time? That would make no sense...I'd rather it be on a far planet or alternate dimension that Dr. Strange finds or any other explanation.

I think I'm gonna call BS on that one.

Hmm...I may actually watch this.

The Gunn tweet was more than likely a jab and not in any way to be taken seriously. People are pretty desperate to cling to everything they see in tweets these days.

That's interesting. Allen at one point in the comics travelled back in time running so fast he became the lightning bolt that caused the accident where he got his powers. Paradox right there, but very cool. Would like to see that at the end of the series...

They say that in the last days there will be signs and curses.

And then a white horse brings the king to set it all right. The good archangel Michael will put josh wilding in the abyss.
So lets all pray that a miracle will happen and josh wilding will be unconcieved by a time paradox.

And then a glorious new golden age will begin.
We'll be like be Irish right before they discovered whiskey.

Satan took two shits.

One was hitler. The other was Stalin.

Then satan had a few farts. They were Obama and joy behar.

Then those farts begat abominations. Many abominations. They took with no mercy. All that they chose. And the product of this unholy union was josh wilding. ( along with Ebola and George soros and bilderbergers )

Josh wilding, a monkey and a retard walk into a bar.

The bartender asks "what's all this ?"

So the monkey and the retard say "we're here to show josh a good time- y'know try to get him laid "

So the bartender says " ok- I need a charity write off".

Sadly the mission was a failure. But the monkey got gloriously drunk. And the retard married the housekeeper.
So it's a happy ending anyway.
