THE FLASH: Ezra Miller Partners With Grant Morrison To Write The Script In An Effort To Stay On As The Star

It may be time to pump the brakes on that rumored November start date as it's being reported that Ezra Miller has taken over scripting duties on The Flash in an effort to remain onboard as the star.

In a week filled with exciting Marvel news, The Hollywood Reporter has dropped quite a bombshell update on one of DC's biggest upcoming superhero titles: The Flash.

According to their latest report, Ezra Miller (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) has partnered with acclaimed comics author Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman) to pen a new draft for his standalone Flash movie and based on how the new script is received by Warner Bros., it could very well determine whether or not Miller remains onboard the project moving forward.

The latest development stems from a clash of creative visions between the directors, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, and the film's star, Miller. The Game Night directors are pushing for a lighter approach to the source material, similar to their work on Spider-Man: Homecoming, while Miller prefers a darker take on the Scarlet Speedster in the same vein as his appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League

Warner Bros. is reportedly strongly in favor of the directors' version and it's hard not to see why after the billion-dollar success of James Wan's Aquaman, which fully embraced the comic book spectacle, and the extremely strong early reception to David F. Sandberg's Shazam!, which fully embraces the fun factor.

After months of trying to find a compromise, Miller decided to take it upon himself to take a crack at the story and reached out to Morrison to help him write a new screenplay. Both were then formally hired by WB and it's believed they could actually submit their version of the script to the studio as early as next week.

However, there's going to be a lot riding on that meeting because if Warner Bros. decides not to move forward with Miller & Morrison's take, then Miller is likely to exit the project entirely. His holding deal also expires in May, so the next few weeks are - in typical Flash fashion - going to be a literal race against the clock as the studio determines which script is best and whether Miller will be their Barry Allen or if it's time to find a new Scarlet Speedster.
