THE FLASH Showrunners Want To Eventually Add Wally West

At The Flash's PaleyFest panel last night, showrunners on The CW's freshman superhero drama revealed to the audience that they eventually hope to bring in another Flash, Wally West. And he'll be African-American, just like in the New 52.

Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, executive producers of The CW's Flash were on stage for the show's PaleyFest panel, along with Jesse L. Martin (Det. West) and Candice Patton (Iris West). One of the topics discussed was the fact that the West's are African-American on the show and what that would mean if fan-favorite Flash, Wall West was ever introduced on the show.

Said Greg Berlanti, "We made [the] Wests African-American so that we could head in that direction." Kreisberg added, "When DC reintroduced Wally [in the New 52], he was African-American."

Kreisberg is correct. As most comic book fans know, prior to the reboot of the DC Comics universe in 2011 , Wally West was a much older, caucasian male.  However, when West made his New 52 debut in The Flash #30 he was African-American, younger and had a new "street" backstory. Series writers Van Jensen and Robert Venditti made it clear that the new direction for Wally West came from DC Comics and was not something they pitched. In September's Future's End Flash tie-in , the series jumps ahead 5 years and features a very Impulse-inspired version of Wally West as Kid Flash.  With time travel also in play on The CW's Flash, perhaps this is the direction the show will take to introduce Wally as well? We'll have to wait and see as season one of the new CW superhero drama kicks off Tuesday, October 7th at 8 PM EST.

How could DC even allow CW to use The Flash? that Grant Gustin is NOT Barry Allen, all I see is a kid.
AAAnd then we're going to have 2 Flashs!! Tv-flash and movie-flash.. which is stupid!!

Was a big DC Fan 10 years ago. But its no fun to read DC anymore, except some titles. New 52 is a mess, and I am a lot more happy with Marvel these days.

I'm sure this won't be for a long time, like until season 3/4. Barry needs to be significantly older than Wally.

I'm cool with him being black if the best actor who auditions is black. Otherwise it's just the showrunners, and DC, being too PC.

Ok I'm all for diversity and shit but Wally West is not black, god dammit. He just isn't. It completely changes the character and it would havd been better had they created a new character. RIP pre52 wally west

I do have a problem with black Wally. Changing his race is ok but why always black?
Where are the Mexican & Asian superheroes? Other races too.
Don't give me that Vibe character either, that guys a joke. So is that crappy middle eastern GL.

Give other races a prominent & cool character to portray.
Young Justice had a black Aqua Lad & now Kid Flash is African American in the DCU.
Are the big time characters only black or white?...really?

@DCGuy

I like Barry better also but he was dead at the time this show was in production. Wally worked really well with the team though as did John Stewart. No Hal Jordan = No Barry Allen apparently.

I like Barry better than Wally, but I would be okay with them introducing Wally as long as it makes sense and it isn't in the first season.
