Tom Cavanagh - "That Was Me" In The REVERSE-FLASH Suit

Tom Cavanagh - "That Was Me" In The REVERSE-FLASH Suit

Tom Cavanagh is relieved he's finally able to talk about playing Reverse-Flash on The CW. "To me -- to me -- there is one Reverse-Flash. I think I'm not going to get in right yet to the specifics of it, but that is, as I approach it, when I play it, that's the starting-off point."

It was previously confirmed that it was indeed Tom Cavanagh's 'Harrison Wells" in the Reverse-Flash costume battling Grant Gustin's Flash in the mid-season finale of The CW's Arrow spinoff.  However, Flash producers are providing a bit of misdirection, teasing that there might be another Reverse-Flash besides Wells.  Now, CBR has an interview with Cavanagh to see if the man playing the antithesis of the Flash can provide more details.  Here's a rundown of what Cavanagh shared.

+Cavanagh has known he was suiting up as Reverse-Flash since Day One.

+Cavanagh also weighs in on the tease from producers that there may be more than one Reverse-Flash.  "There's resolution. Even as season 2 has been unveiled to me, there are unexpected storylines that explain things, and allow us to sustain things, that make perfect sense. Joe West's pursuit of who the Harrison Wells character is, for example, is just a brilliant storyline. I guess the word, which you don't often run into television but I really like, is there seems to be a real respect for the guys who do our show, and the core community they do it for."

+Cavanagh is of course playing Harrison Wells on The Flash.  However, of all the different individuals to don the Reverse-Flash persona throughout the history of DC Comics, none of them have been named Harrison Wells.  So which Reverse-Flash is Cavanagh basing his performance on?  Cavanagh's not telling, but he does hint that there is one particular Reverse-Flash he's studying.  "To me -- to me -- there is one Reverse-Flash. I think I'm not going to get in right yet to the specifics of it, but that is, as I approach it, when I play it, that's the starting-off point."

+Cavanagh confirms that was indeed him in the Reverse-Flash costume during the football stadium fight with Barry.  "I've got some great shots of just Grant and I -- because it was finally like, "OK, here we go. We're finally doing the thing." That particular scene, we had a major league football stadium all to ourselves, shooting at 4:30 in the morning, with incredible production value, wearing suits and blood and all that kind of stuff -- if you were to tell your 6-year-old stuff that you have this to look forward to, it'd be a pretty happy day."

The Flash adventure continues on The CW will all new episodes starting January 20th.

@Mrniklander The Flash's story has alot to do with time travel (runs so fast he can run through time) and that means the reverse flash (Wells) is actually from the future like 20 years in the future from now. So that means within that 20 years there can be another Reverse Flash who is someone different. I think that's why Reverse Flash didn't hurt Eddie because he is another Reverse Flash. And now to why Wells is helping Barry its because sense Wells is from the future and becomes the Reverse Flash because in the future he wants to be better than Barry or Hates Barry for some reason, so that means Wells has to make sure Barry becomes The Flash because if he doesn't that means Wells won't become the Reverse Flash, so Barry was never in danger against the Reverse Flash

And why Wells can be in two places at once is that was a future Wells coming back in time to give Past Wells the tech he needed for his suit

Wells is Professor Zoom, they are probably pulling from Post-Crisis On Infinite Earths Professor Zoom including Flash: Rebirth. Since in that story, Zoom realizes that Barry needs to become Flash for him to become Professor Zoom. Hence why he's coaching Barry.

I'm guessing though that Eddy is a descendant of Wells, and what happens to him leads to the creation of Reverse-Flash.

Reverse Flash, Professor Zoom same difference but I do agree Wells is Professor Zoom and Eddie will be Reverse Flash

The Wells with the bruised face had the tachyon device at the end. So presumably the RF who stole it gave it to him.

If the tachyon device allows RF to time-travel, after the 'Merry Christmas' line, Wells could suit-up, time-travel to an hour prior, beat his younger-self up, steal the tachyon device and later give it to his younger-self.

Eddie is probably his ancestor.

How did he beat himself up then? I am very confused.
In the JCVD movie Time Cop, if one comes in contact with their past self, they explode. And that movie was based on real physics, so I'm confused as to what is going on here with Wells being able to beat himself up.

I know this reveal was pretty obvious, but it might have been nice to put a spoiler warning the headline.

The actual article itself is cool - anyone who clicks on it is asking for the reveal - but for those just passing by the site (who aren't quite caught up yet), it's not nice.

This is more for other spoilers in the future. Everyone and their granny knew this was gonna happen.

He says- "Nice to meet you Dr. Wells" which implies that the version of him in that episode was before he was "stuck" back in the ninties trying to kil Nora. I was wrong for sure. I thought it was a bad version of Barry. I really like this show, can't wait for next Tuesday.

I'm callimg it now:

The big twist of this season is that they switched the comics origins of Hunter Zolomon (Wells) and Eobard Thawne (Eddie Thawne).

Later in the season, we'll see Eddie (who is a cop like Zolomon was in the comics) be injured by Gorilla Grodd (again, like Zolomon). This will all lead to him getting his powers (likely due to intervention by Wells, who is aware of everything that is meant to happen to Eddie, hence his creation of Grodd).

And despite what the midseasom finale might lead us to believe, it is Thawne who kills Nora.

Superman and Flash are having a race, and they come across Wonder Woman, naked, spread-eagle on a beach.

Superman says, "Hey! I bet I can screw her so fast she won't even notice" and flies over, BAM BAM BAM, and goes back to Flash.

Flash says, I can screw her so fast TWICE and she won't even notice" and runs over, BAM BAM BAM, BAM BAM BAM, and they resume her race.

Then, the Invisible Man gets up from where he was humping Wonder Woman, and says, WHY does my ass hurt so much????"

@batmannightwingrobin - I think the problem here is that spoiler's in the headline itself. Anyone can see it - even if they don't want to.

Like I said, this isn't really a big deal. But for something like, I dunno, the ending of BVS or Age Of Ultron, I'd be pissed off.
bropous
bropous - 1/13/2015, 7:57 AM
@batmannightwingrobin: Get used to it.

Two freaking months after Avengers: Age of Ultron is released, and even in the week that Ant-Man is released, you'll have douchebags clicking on Ultron discussion articles screaming and crying about "spoilers".

And maybe it IS Wells in a Reverse Flash suit, just trying to get Flash to push himself to the limits, and there is a SECOND Reverse Flash, controlled by Gorilla Grodd, with time-travel abilities?

I mean, it IS a show based on a comic book, after all!
