We're just under two weeks away from a brand new theatrical trailer for Thor: The Dark World, but fans are still buzzing about the big closing scene in the Comic-Con footage shown last weekend. The moment in particular shows Tom Hiddleston's Loki unmercifully slicing off Thor's right hand. Due to prior engagements, Chris Hemsworth (and several other cast members) couldn't attend the Marvel panel, but Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with the hammer-slinging star and asked about Thor's severed hand. “Is that the footage they showed?” Hemsworth asked. “I haven’t seen it yet. I’m trying to get hold of it somehow. I wish I could have been there. I can’t say too much more about it. But I will tell you that’s not the worst thing that he has to worry about along the way.” When EW compared Thor to Game of Thrones' Jaime Lannister, who lost his hand in an April episode of the HBO series, “That’s a good point, wow, that never struck me. There’s a strange parallel there,” said Hemsworth. As for the God of Thunder possibly going on without his right hand, some speculate that it's an illusion brought on by the God of Mischief himself, but only time will tell. “Maybe I will have to learn to use the hammer with the left hand, you know? Or I was thinking of maybe just attaching it. I could ram it straight down into the stump. That would be very Game of Thrones in approach,” Chris Hemsworth added.

In related news: Thor: The Dark World co-writer Christopher Yost revealed to Marvel.com that the stone-like creature, who was taunted by Thor before being smashed to bits, in the Comic-Con footage is actually one of the Kronans. This is the alien race that claims to be from Saturn and are also Thor's first enemies in his Journey Into Mystery #83 origins story. What do you think?

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo & Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962. “Thor: The Dark World” is presented by Marvel Studios. The executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Craig Kyle and Nigel Gostelow. The film releases November 8, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios.
