In a new interview with USA Weekend, Idris Elba talked a bit about his role of Heimdall in 'Thor' and talks just a bit about his time working on the film.

USA Weekend: You just finished your stint filming Thor as the Asgardian warrior Heimdall. How was that?

Idris: It was dope. It was an interesting genre of film to make. I had never done comic book stuff, so that was really great.

USA Weekend: What was the coolest part?

Idris: Just the bigness of the show. It’s so epic, these huge sets were just amazing to look at. And they really pat attention to detail. When you read the comics, you see all the drawings, and to actually see them in real life, it’s like, “Whoa!”

USA Weekend: Do you see yourself doing another superhero character or are you good with the crime dramas?

Idris: I have a deal with the Marvel Studios team, a four-picture commitment. I’m sure I’ll be back in something cool.

Well there is something new, we had not known that Idris had a four picture commitment with Marvel to reprise his role of Heimdall.

'Thor' will be released on May 6, 2011, directed by Kenneth Branagh. 'Thor' stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Rene Russo, Tom Hiddleston, Kat Dennings, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Clark Gregg, Jaimie Alexander, Tadanobu Asano, Joshua Dallas and Ray Stevenson.

That sounds awesome. Now, I think he is going to be a great Heimdall, but I think he would have made a great Luke Cage also!

"never done a comic book movie before?"
trash the film all you want, but The Losers was based off the graphic novel!
ah well....
maybe he's trying to forget it.

I like him a lot!!! Just saw him in Takers. He was excellent. People talk about him being Luke Cage, but I think he would have knocked Black Panther out of the park! Honestly I think this dude is gonna be the next Denzel Washington.

yeah it was based off the DC graphic novel of the same name. the comic was a reboot of sorts, updating a WWII era commando unit into CIA operatives.
and now, WB is soon to release RED, another DC property about ex-CIA. obsessive anyone?

and while i have not seen The Losers (i really want to btw) the positive reviews have been few and far between.
i cannot wait to see if The Losers really "lost" its placement as a solid CBM.

@Wadey09

WB is not doing RED its Summit Entertainment they got the rights to RED. but it will still have the DC logo in the movie since its a DC comic.

i have to agree grif,heimdall is white in the comics he should be white in the film.

same as say a live action akira film,i would want to see an all japanese cast.

if a charactor is black or white in the comics,he or she should be black or white on film.

would you except a white black panther or storm.

i wouldn't,if their is any little faults with thor this will be one of them.

@deadpool72

i would not compare black panther and storm with heimdall lol.

also in the Thor trailer their are different races that are in Asgard.
marvel72
marvel72 - 8/28/2010, 8:30 AM
@ jazzman

okay,that probably was a wrong comparism black panther & storm.

you cast idris elba as heimdall for four films,you won't see him as the black panther.

this ain't the only film thats got it wrong.

tim burtons batman(1989)harvey dent played by billy dee williams.

daredevil(200?)the kingpin played by micheal clarke duncan,how much better would daredevil had been with a white kingpin.(not much but a little bit.)

i got no problem with different races in asgard,but every day on this site me & others rant & rave about how comics should be as close to the source material as possible.

i don't think its to much to ask if charactor is white in the comics,he should be white in the film.

@Jazzman
oops!
my bad.
only see the RED trailer like twice, and i assumed seeing as how WB basically owns DC, that they were distributing it.
jazzman
jazzman - 8/28/2010, 9:00 AM
@Wadey09

yeah at first i thought RED was going to be done by WB but Summit Entertainment got the rights for distributing. whats going to be shocking is that Summit Entertainment are the ones behind The Twilight movies LOL. if RED does well by Summit Entertainment at the box office it will show that WB dont know how to do these comic movies like The Loser LOL.

@deadpool72

true that but when we talking about close to source material we mean the story is still in contact.

Stan Lee in a interview said characters like Kingpin aint well known to the general public so he dont find its a issue. the characters like Spider-Man will stay the same but he does not have a issue for a black person audition for the character.

MCD playing Kingpin was not a big deal after watching it. it would not been that great anyway with a white Kingpin cause they will still have the same story and director doing the movie lol. also they even mention they tried to look for white actors who are the size of Kingpin plus they did want to put a actor in a fat suit to play Kingpin and remember MCD was well known at the time.

come on its Billy Dee Williams aka Lando but yeah he played Harvey Dent but he did not play Two-Face at the end of the day.

i had no issue when D. B. Sweeney a white actor played a black character Terry Fitzgerald in Spawn film. remember they still kept Spawn black just like the comics.

what about X-Men Origins: Wolverine they casted Daniel Henney a Korean-American actor to play Agent Zero who is German in the comic no one complain about that.

Fantastic Four even had Jessica Alba who is latino mix played Sue Storm who is 100% white. or even Kerry Washington who is black played Alicia Masters whos white in the comics. Kerry Washington was good as the character. not saying Fantastic Four is a good movie it sucked cause of the director and screen writter did not know how to make a good movie and story.

@ jazzman

i don't think people singled out those two faults agent zero or jessica alba,it was the overall hatred for how two of the most beloved comic franchise were handled.

we would be here all day listing the faults of the three movies mentioned.

@deadpool72

see what u said its not about the characters but how them movies was handle bad. i believe in THOR will be a good comic book movie even it has Idris Ebla playing Heimdall.

@ElGuason yea your right..cause political correct pandering is more important then a great history, culture, or reality....

Cast him for the stare, not because he is black and I'm sure they did..putting him in there because they needed a 'token black guy' it blatantly racist, and belittling of the guys acting chops, or the look/persona he possess..I personally don't like that cast. just like i don't want to see a white guy as on of Black Panthers right hand guys...they are a isolated african tribe..almost like a being from another dimension not generally accessible from Midgard...err, Earth.
