As the script for
Avengers; Endgame is further dissected, fans have discovered a surprising reference to the original Stormbreaker owner (in the comics), Beta Ray Bill. It seems the scene featuring younger versions of Gamora and Nebula fighting mysterious warriors could lead to something bigger, because the script has revealed that those mechanized/armor-clad gun-wielders are actually Korbinites - Beta Ray Bill's species! In the comics, the Korbinites were wiped out (except for Bill) by Surtur, but it seems the MCU will have Thanos' forces be responsible for the dastardly deed.
If you recall, Bill was previously referenced in
Thor: Ragnarok as The Grandmaster's tower
featured the visage of past Coliseum champions on its facade, and among them was the unmistakable "grin" of Beta Ray Bill. In fact, Kevin Feige stated that plans for the film actually called for Beta Ray to appear at one point before they were ultimately scrapped. "
There was a Beta Ray Bill, but it was so quick that you would have the same complaints that you have now," said Feige back in 2017.
Feige went on to add, "
He was in it a little bit more and it just didn’t do justice. And the feeling is, if you can’t do it justice, do it later." There's also the fact that Thor's new hammer/ax Stormbreaker was originally commissioned by Odin for Bill after he proved himself a noble warrior during a fight to the death with Thor. If Marvel Studios is truly sowing the seeds for Bill's debut, do you think he'll turn up in the next
Guardians film - possibly seeking revenge against Gamora and Nebula? Or perhaps he'll show up in
Thor: Love and Thunder as a potential romantic interest for Valkyrie? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
