Hugo Weaving In The Dark About The Transformers Franchise!

Hugo Weaving In The Dark About The Transformers Franchise!

You would think the voice of Megatron would at least be interested in the hit Transformers franchise. But recent comments suggest otherwise.

This from The Age:

"[Director] Michael Bay talks to me on the phone. I've never met him," Weaving said about the first two installments. "We were doing the voice for the second one and I still hadn't seen the first one. I still didn't really know who the characters were and I didn't know what anything was. It's a voice job, for sure, and people assume I've spent my life working on it, but I really know so little about it."

Didn't see the first one? You missed out on the better of the two Transformer movies Hugo! I got that it's a voice job and not all to critical for you to actually screen the movie you voiced the main villain in. I got that part. But Come On MAN! At least Hugo is a talented actor. To know so little about a role and turn in great performances is like a kid who never studies only to get straight A's.

When asked about a third Transformers movie Hugo replied:

"Oh no," he barks with a laugh. "They're not making Transformers III, are they?"

Yeah Hugo, they probably are.

Wow...yeah, kinda disappointing from a fanboy perspective, but you're right he always does a great job. He'll be back for the third one.

The original Prime... Make it the original Megatron. I had originally read the interview with Cullen that said they worried about doing both original voices. Hollywood stuff.

I think this would be a good opportunity for Frank Welker to voice Megatron. If that's done, then provided there's a good script this time around, all will be forgiven after the embarrassing second installment.

who cares? robots that turn into cars? talk about a down grade.

i don't see a problem with anything he's saying. it's not like he's phoning it in. he's an actor - it's work to him.

That right there should be an article on it's own!!! The Legend of Hugo Weaving!!! The man is AWESOME!!! And it's a plus that he didn't have to meet Bay actually.

VIVA LA "V"!!! ;P

@longbowhunter - Would YOU actually want to meet Michael Bay? I wouldn't.

It's not too different than when James Earl Jones did the voice for Vader. JEJ had no faith in the Star Wars franchise, yet he kept doing the voice work on a series that made bajillions!!!

I'm so-so with this. Not disappointed, nor have I lost respect.

But the second movie did go downhill, and I think it's mostly due to the human side of the stories. Really, all we need is Shia, Megan, and the soldiers are all that are needed. and the humour shoulve been cut down to a bare minimum. :/

@Lee, I will have to agree with you on this, I think he would make a good Sinestro, maybe not the best as he can be stiff sometimes (not the way you like them stiff either).

Not so weird guys, when you do voice work for a movie, it's a few hours at a recording studio, maybe several short sessions and then you're done. Easy money, minimal commitment. Easy to see someone not meeting the director and no reason to turn voicework down unless you are actively against the whole project in the first place.

Bamf7, I'm not what you'd call a social butterfly. Being as misanthopic as I am, meeting people is one of the things I try and avoid most in life. Dont you find it odd for an actor and a director to have never met face to face? Not even at the movie's premiere!

Well he's a great actor and the Transformers movies arent the best so I cant blame him for not watching them, lol! Its hard to notice that its his voice anyway IMO!

@longbowhunter - Yeah, I know. I agree it's a bit weird for them to have NEVER met. I'm just saying I don't think Hugo is missing out on too much...anybody who is willing to allow himself be photographed bowing down in front of Megan Fox doesn't really deserve a lot of respect if you ask me, haha.

I am a fan of Hugo Weaving, the guy is in some of the cornerstones of Sci Fi Movies...but when they cast Cullen I assumed they would cast Welker...then they didn't and then for whatever reason decided to cast him in the 2nd...(Soundwave). Bay just has too many continuity issues...ie Devastator...(I don't care what anyone says Bay effed up and tried his best to pretend it never happened...although it could be constrewed as an accidental Easter Egg and by that I refer to multiple times in the Transformers Animated Movie where guys would die and reappear in other scenes or back in the show kinda different..ie Wheeljack, Windcharger or other instances where characters appear in other scenes slightly different with no sense...however it is probably more likely that Bay just screwed it up...)

Maybe go to Galvatron and bring in Leonard Nimoy?

I'm pretty sure the guy who did the original Megatron voice was in the game with Peter Cullen. Kinda weird they did the game but not the movie together. I wonder if they thought his voice was too similiar to Starscream's...not to mention they look almost identical to the untrained eye. Honestly, it would have been the shit to have Megatron's raspy voice speaking those lines. *sigh* it would have been awesome.

I don't see anything bad about this. I mean, Hugo is right. This is just a voice role. He walks into a sound stage, does his thing, goes home.

I love this guy (platonically speaking, of course), he would've been my choice for sinestro, hands down, could still be brainiac in a perfect world where superman movies don't revolve around lex luthor :-)
