Nightmare On Elm St Director May Make The Boys Next

Samuel Bayer revealed to /film earlier on that he would like to make a certain CBM next but wouldn't reveal the title. Well, he has now...

Earlier today, /film published a story about how Samuel Bayer is not interested in directing a sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street, and hinted that he is developing an adaptation of a graphic novel...

There’s a comic– I’m sure my agent would kill me for this, because I’m sure I’m not supposed to talk about it or whatever, but I don’t really care, is that– no, my assistant is shaking her head. No. No? No? I was going to mention a project. Shut up? Okay. I’m doing what people tell me. Yeah, I’ll bury myself with this one. There’s some very, very cool stuff out there. I’m really into graphic novels and really into the superhero genre, and I really think there’s some interesting stuff going on, and I think that’s what I’m leaning towards.

But then in an interview with Shocktillyoudrop, Bayer spilled the beans!

There’s one comic book I really dig that I want to go after that’s bad-ass. I’d like to get it, it’s called The Boys. It’s about a group of mercenaries and they’re job is to kick the shit out of superheroes who get out of line. It doesn’t get any better than that. In the world of The Boys, superheroes are scumbags. My youngest brother is a comic book historian and he introduced me to a lot of graphic novels like “The Dark Knight.” There are some great books I don’t think people have tapped into yet.

Well, news of The Boys movie is coming at a fare pace it seems. Earlier on we heard from the artist of the comic, Darrick Robertson, and how much he loved the first draft of the script. Although I didn't think Nightmare looked to be up to much, I really hope it is now if this dude will be directing The Boys! Not many people seem to have heard of this comic on here, so here is the official description of the first graphic novel which the movie will likely follow, "The name Of The Game"..

“This is going to hurt! In a world where costumed heroes soar through the sky and masked vigilantes prowl the night, someone’s got to make sure the “supes” don’t get out of line. And someone will! Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother’s Milk, The Frenchman, and The Female are The Boys: A CIA-backed team of very dangerous people, each one dedicated to the struggle against the most dangerous force on Earth - superpower! Some superheroes have to be watched. Some have to be controlled. And some of them, sometimes, need to be taken out of the picture. That’s when you call in The Boys!

I really hope this happens. And with stuff like Kick Ass making headlines, there has never been a better time for it.

Thanks to /film and Shocktillyoudrop.

If he pulls off A Nightmare on Elm Street, he might be a good choice to direct The Boys. We'll just have to find out on April 30th.

God, I hope this A-hole doesn't F-k this up...

Ror@ Thanks for staying on top of this, man. I love this comic, and welcome news. Even the bad kind.

Sounds like this director has some passion for the source material, maybe that'll take him in the right direction. I'm really gonna' try and stay positive here.

@Ror, you're just assuming Nightmare is shit, or have you heard from those who've seen advanced screenings? I don't know how you could go wrong with the concept of Freddy Krueger, you can do anything, it's all dreams! I guess it's still possible to eff that up, though.

LEE: I've started leaving the Marvel Universe by ordering some of Mark Millar's independent stuff - Kick-Ass obviously (which was awesome!) but also Wanted and American Jesus/...gotta take it slow, lol! :P

Hockeypants, well I never thought the clips looked good, but then the advanced screening reviews slated it too. Freddy may be theoretically a great concept, but when your movie is a basic teens in jeopardy slasher film I think its very easy to mess up!

Josh, I wouldn't bother with Wanted if I were you. Film sucked..but the comic sucked too for different reasons. Its very well written and stuff, but the main character..and indeed every character is such a complete prick that its hard to give a shit what happens. Thats the point..but it doesn't make for good reading imo. The end is also complete shite.

Misstree..it actually is a bit misogynistic, no denying that. Its not homophobic in the least..it sounds like you have just read about it online and not actually read it yourself. And its anything but garbage..again, stop listening to the tools on the soapboxes.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE GARTH ENNIS WRITE EITHER DEADPOOL OR THE THUNDERBOLTS.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 3/3/2010, 9:40 AM
hah, Ennis writing Thunderbolts would be unreal! The title would have to be scrapped after a while though. Although, he can tone it down when he has to.

Alex, in fairness, what is better than Preacher?

@theGerman I completely agree that a live-action Preacher would be better anticipated. Though, starting off with The Boys might give a good reading as to Ennis' brand of "racey" and be a sort of "test" to audiences.

I still feel that Mendes could do Preacher some justice in the film medium, although, I think something like Preacher needs more of a serial output (i.e. the HBO series seemed apropos).

New here, guys. Really enjoy the site and comments!
