As any fan of Garth Ennis' controversial comic series knows, the character of "Wee Hughie" Campbell is the spitting image of actor Simon Pegg - on purpose. So when Adam McKay was announced as director for the big screen version fans immediately wanted to know if Pegg would be approached to play the part. Well it seems that he has been, revealing to MTV that he has read the script. But Pegg also reckons he might just be a bit long in the tooth to play the character by the time the movie gets rolling..
"I have [read the script], it's really good. I'd love to do it, if it came about," said Pegg. "My fear is that I'm too old to play Wee Hughie, now. But you know, obviously, the character was drawn, at least, around my face."
I don't think Pegg would be too old at all, but then we don't know when or even if this movie will happen. Director Adam McKay was heard to say at the 2011 Comedy Awards:
"You really have to wait until the draft is done to get serious about it, plus it's like a $100 million, Rated-R, anti-superhero movie, so we have to see who bites on it". Lets hope someone bites, and soon. McKay has also expressed interest in Russell Crowe for the lead role of Billy Butcher. And Pegg is worried that HE is too old?
