The fourth episode of The Boys season 4 is now streaming on Prime Video, and "Wisdom of the Ages" certainly proved to be an eventful hour - even if it did leave us with some big questions heading into the second half of the season.

The biggest talking point is sure to be Homelander paying a little visit to the Vought laboratory that experimented on him as a child. The scientists there put the young Supe through some pretty horrific stuff (is it any wonder he turned out like he did?) in an effort to test the limits of his abilities, and ol' Homie decided the best way to purge himself of what remains of his humanity and need to be loved was to brutally, sadistically murder every one of them - aside from one lady, Barbara, who "John" still seemed to have some affection for (although he probably left her significantly traumatized by what she witnessed, anyway).

As for the Seven's new recruits, we find out that Sister Sage lobotomizes herself in order to enjoy the simpler things in life like eating fast food, watching Transformers 2, and... f*cking The Deep. Firecracker, meanwhile, pushes Starlight too far by revealing to the world that the former Seven member decided to have an abortion, and Annie responds by beating the holy hell out of the Supe on live TV.

We also learn that Billy Butcher's Compound V-V24 cocktail did have the desired effect (sort of), giving him sporadic superpowers that even he doesn't seem to be aware of. How exactly did he manage to escape from Ezekiel, reducing the stretchy Supe to a pile of skin and blood in the process?

Elsewhere, Kimiko and Hughie narrowly escape after a bloody battle with members of the Shining Light, Frenchie tells Colin that he killed his family (which goes about as well as you'd expect), and Hughie asks for A-Train's help in getting his hands on some V to help his dying father.

A-Train comes through, and Hughie forgives the speedster for accidentally killing his girlfriend in the very first episode. Back at the hospital, Hughie thinks twice about giving his dad the V. But his mother Daphne injects it when he's out of the room, and we see Hugh Sr.'s eyes snap open...

What did you think of episode 4 of The Boys? Drop us a comment down below.

"The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power," reads the official season 4 synopsis. "Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late."

Returning cast members include Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti, along with new recruits Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The first three episodes of The Boys season 4 will be available to stream from June 13th, with new instalments dropping weekly through to the season finale on July 18.

I don’t mind this show being spoiled so I usually read what I’m in for ahead of time.

I am so excited to watch Annie beat the ever living crap out of firecracker. It’s going to be so cathartic

Never read the comics, so the show is entertaining while not bothering me if they divert from the original storylines. That said, as edgy and graphic as the show tends to be and has been this season, I kinda feel like it’s been just slightly toned down so far compared to previous seasons. Also a touch too much mushy drama and unnecessary backstory scenes.

Lean into non-stop action, gore and push the envelope- that’s what made the show great to begin with, kill characters off, do crazy shet. Get too dramatic and it gets boring.

Damn... that might've been one of the best episodes of the series. Homelander is absolute bat-shit insane.

Ok, bs. Absolute bs. No f@#$ing way is Hughie forgiving A Train that fast.

Last season ended with A Train just starting to make amends, and Hughie was having none of it.

Then nothing happens between them until last episode when he gave some evidence proving the bodies weren't killed by starlight supporters.

I genuinely don't care if he helped his dad. Do I need to remind you guys he did this?

Hughie witnessed it all, heard A Train literally laughing about it later, and learned of so much other f@#$ed up sh!t he did. The dude literally had ptsd anytime he past a picture of A Train. Forgiving him should be a season long arc at the bare minimum after all that.

@Origame -

I kind of agreed with that. They hadn’t really touched upon Hughie and A-Train’s relationship much and then suddenly he forgives the guy who killed the potential love of his life and didn’t give a fu*ck?

It did seem kinda weird, I don’t think that happens in real life at all.
I mean maybe if the killer actually genuinely regrets it but A Train kept doing awful things after and helped Homelander numerous times.

@Origame - Hughie doesn't even have an arc anymore, let alone character development. The showrunner doesn't care about following through with characterization and story.

@MisterDoctor217 - quite frankly, I'd see him forgiving A Train on his death bed. And only if he did something like sacrifice himself to kill homelander or save Hughie (or starlight).

But alive the closest I can think of is just agreeing to work with him to deal with far worse supes.

@Origame -

Yeah I get what you mean, and I can see that . But the way they did it seemed rushed and out of nowhere.

Yeah I would have preferred that they keep working together and eventually if A-Train is redeemed, then Hughie forgives him

It was a really intense Episode, and Homelander really has some issues , like seriously the dude is as messed up as a human being can be.
I guess that’s why he is such an interesting and complex character, because he really did not ask to be made into what he is , but he also has never showed any remorse for his actions, so he’s as despicable and evil as they come.

Also Anthony Starr could definitely play the joker.

And as good as this episode was, I think not every storyline is clicking this season.

Homelander and Butcher’s stories remain the most interesting, and Starlight and Hughie finally got some momentum.

But everything else?
Idk , Kimko’s action scenes are cool.

Frenchie’s story is was unnecessary (and not because he’s bi, we kinda got hints throughout the whole show) and MM has barely gotten a story this season besides being a new leader

@MisterDoctor217 - "It was a really intense Episode, and Homelander really has some issues , like seriously the dude is as messed up as a human being can be." You didn't just now realize that in the 4th season, right? :D

@lazlodaytona -

I mean I knew it before but we kind of delved more into his character with this episode, seeing him relive his childhood trapped in that lab.
So I kinda get where he is coming from , but that line from Barbara about Homelander being a threat right from birth , killing doctors and nurses and his own mom, may have been an accident as he was a baby and couldn’t control himself , but it just goes to show Homelander has always been a threat , ever since he was born.

I was really hoping that Frenchie and Kimiko would finally connect as a couple this season. I was not expecting Frenchie to be screwing another dude.
That, combined with poor writing is the reason why I dropped the show with episode 1 of season 4. Season 3 was pretty weak as it was. The magic of season 1 has yet to be replicated.

@DenvertheDino - Did you not watch last season, where they both kissed and said it felt weird and that their bond was more family than romantic…?
