Antony Starr has made a major impact as the psychotic Supe known as Homelander over three seasons of Prime Video's The Boys adaptation, but is there a chance he might suit-up as a more conventional superhero at some point?
A recent rumor claimed that the title role in the planned Max Booster Gold series has already been cast, and when fans noticed that Starr and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn had started following each other on Instagram, speculation mounted that the Aussie actor may have been cast as Michael Jon Carter.
Why that particular character and not another DCU role? Well, Booster is blonde, and Starr... plays a blonde guy on The Boys.
At any rate, it doesn't sound like the social media sleuths have landed on something here - not that Starr would confirm if they had!
"Me and James just play golf," Starr told ComicBook.com when asked about the rumors. "I cannot wait to see what he does with the DC Universe. I think he's a phenomenal director, producer, talent. He's one of the biggest brands in the industry, so I'm excited to see what he cooks up."
Again, even if there was something to this, Starr is hardly going to admit it, but it seems he is quite happy playing Homelander for the time being: "If it ain't milk, I ain't interested, honey."
In a separate interview with Screen Rant, Starr weighed in on a hypothetical battle between Homelander and Superman. Despite both characters bringing very similar power sets to the table, Starr believes the unscrupulous leader of The Seven would have a distinct advantage.
"Here's why Homelander would kick Superman's ass. There's no Kryptonite factor, and Homie would fight so dirty. He's the [type to go], 'Oh, you got me!' as he goes down and then comes up and throws sand in your eyes. He's the dirty dude, man. Whereas Superman is always like, 'Oh, I wouldn't do that. Oh, there's innocent children that might get hurt.' Homie's going to human shield himself with the kids."
Do you agree with Starr's take on how this fantasy battle would play out? Drop us a comment down below.
"The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power," reads the official season 4 synopsis. "Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late."
Returning cast members include Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti, along with new recruits Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
The first three episodes of The Boys season 4 will be available to stream from June 13th, with new instalments dropping weekly through to the season finale on July 18.
