The Joker Finally Debuted On GOTHAM Last Night And You Have To See It To Believe It

There's been talk of it happening for a while now but The Joker finally made his debut on Gotham last night and...well, this is definitely going to leave fans with plenty to talk about! Check it out...

It's been clear for a while now that Gotham isn't adhering to the comic books in pretty much any respect but the show jumped the shark last night when it finally introduced The Joker. While the vast majority of fans theorised that Jerome would be revealed as the Clown Prince of Crime, it turns out that his twin brother Jeremiah is going to menace Gotham City as the terrifyingly insane villain.

After Jerome was finally gunned down by Jim Gordon in what appears to be a definitive death for the character, his promise that he had become more of a "concept" than a man proved to be correct when he left his twin a gift which had a devastating effect on him. Unleashing what appeared to be Joker Gas, we see Jeremiah rise with a pale white face and twisted smile; the transformation is complete!

His hair doesn't appear to be green - yet - and there are a few ways Gotham could still introduce another Joker but this is a rather weird and underwhelming origin story for the character if it is truly him (which does seem to be the case). Regardless, Jerome has succeeded in unleashing Jeremiah's madness and it should not be interesting to see where the series takes this story moving forward.

Are you kidding me? Jerome had a twin brother that becomes the Joker? That's the actual answer?

I've never been a fan of what they did with Jerome or all the attempts to make him the catalyst for the Joker, but this is way worse than all of that.

@IronMandarin - Yeah. Like seriously? I always thought it was a terrible idea to have a guy whos otherwise not the Joker here since it just makes the actual Joker seem like a copycat of Jerome. Now this? And why does this show like to ruin Batman's involvement in the creation of his villains? The idea is that he's supposed to create certain villains and encourage others to keep going. That way it's complicated if he's really doing the right thing. Now it's just definitively Batman is totally necessary and 100% in the right.

The typo at the end of this article is the best part of the whole thing.

I completely agree “unleashing Jeremiah's madness and it should not be interesting”

Wasn't a fan of Jereome at first, but then he won me over, now let's see how they're gonna play with this new (real) Joker.

@Doomsday8888 - Well, I am not. I think I am done with this show. What a terrible way to add a twist for the sake of adding a twist. So they spent all this time building up Jerome as the Joker. Building up his personality, his look, his scarred mouth, his removed and then replaced face, all things similar to different portrayals of the Joker, his hand in creating Joker venom, and all over the course of several seasons and for what? To just throw some shitty twist in to say “HA! Bet you didn’t expect that!”

Talk about unnecessary writing. I am done with Gotham.

Shit like this was always gonna happen. They should have set this show after Bruce becomes Batman rather than before. That way they can have all their little villain appearances and still have it actually make sense and not be real fuggin' dumb.
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 4/13/2018, 4:51 AM
@MrMartyMarvel - Exactly... the original pitch for the show was that it was going to be set in Nolan’s Batverse during Batman’s “retirement” between TDK and TDKR. People hated that, feeling it would be a smear on what Nolan created, and so the retooled the pitch to be “before Batman”

Really though, they just needed to drop the Nolan link. Set it post Batman, but nobody knows what happened to him or where he’s gone. Gordan and the police have to hold the line without him as crime resurges with a vengeance. Have Bruce Wayne as a character going through physical therapy rehab, but still acting as a detective and using his mind to help... maybe introduce Robin as someone he starts to train since he can’t physically be in places he needs to be.

That way you get all of the villains with no Batman, and no need for elaborate fight choreography, Batmobiles, etc.

Oh he is not the Joker.. no no... His twin brother is.. Ok...

Isnt this like the movie Beerfest where one of the team members die but the team find his twin brother who joins and it carries on as nothing happend?

@Floke - Naw because that actually sounds funny

@Floke - So, like the Voyager episode where everyone but Harry Kim dies and he just goes to live with the duplicate Voyager crew and no one ever mentions it again?

What a terrible introduction to the Joker.

If they wanted to make this generic 'twin' plotline work the best option would have been that Jeremiah was actually the Joker the entire time and used Jerome as a fall-guy. Jeremiah would blame Jerome for everything, manipulating the people around him to drive Jerome insane. Once he's alienated Jerome he effectively drives him insane and uses varying methods to manipulate him to take certain actions.

Effectively Jeremiah would have been the Joker mentally, the genius behind all the villain plots, which Jerome would have been the Joker in appearance. Then after Jerome dies, Jeremiah ends up styling himself after his deceased brother (As a way to continue to blame Jerome for everything)

I never understood the popularity of this show. I've tried giving it a shot twice and never took to it. I hear people constantly say it's got better but

Seeing shit like this makes me glad I didn't go back to it.
BackwardGalaxy

@ThePott - So, you're not watching. You're taking the scene out of context. But you can make a judgment as to whether or not it worked as an introduction of the character. Got it. Opinion noted.
ThePott
ThePott - 4/13/2018, 5:37 AM
@BackwardGalaxy - Don't get so butthurt. More power to you if you like it.

That being said, teasing a character and then doing a switcheroo with his twin is an awful introduction to a legendary character. Also the context was established in the article.

You don't have to comment at everyone here who thinks it sucks, if you enjoy it good for you. Opinion noted.

@ThePott - I don't watch Gotham, but MY PARENTS watch it...so take from that what you wish. It's broadcast TV, the demographics are 40+. Not saying this as a good or bad thing. Just the nature of broadcast.
ThePott
ThePott - 4/13/2018, 8:25 AM
@stringslinger - For sure, it's rare that any drama series on Broadcast tv is worth watching in general. Mind you I think generally Gotham might skewer a bit younger if only for online steaming.

Despite originally being totally against it, I really liked what they did with Jerome. This... this is disappointing, but I'll wait and see where they go with it.

RextheKing - 4/13/2018, 3:56 AM
Well what ever happened to the 2 week 2 day rule? I don't watch the show, so it doesn't spoil anything for me, but this is bullshit for anyone who does. Not everyone can watch an episode when it premieres, so don't spoil shit in the headline of articles. Seriously if Wilding didn't pretty much have a monopoly on the biggest stories on this site, I'd never click on another one of his articles.

Incoherent films, incoherent TV shows. God only knows why DC/WB endorses this kind of shit.
