THE FLASH Faces Cicada In The New Promo & Photos From Season 5, Episode 16: "Failure Is An Orphan"

After that epic showdown between Gorilla Grodd and King Shark, next week's episode gets back to the primary storyline as Cisco's meta-human cure is finally ready to use on the big bad Cicada.

Next week, the last confrontation begins as Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) comes face-to-face with the big bad Cicada (Chris Klein) and according to Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy), it appears the Scarlet Speedster may finally be on the verge of taking him down.

Meanwhile, Cisco's (Carlos Valdes) meta-human cure is ready for use, which should help the team gain an upperhand against Cicada, but getting a shot at actually giving him the cure is going to be much easier said than done.

THE META-CURE IS READY TO USE ON CICADA - With the meta-human cure ready to use, Barry (Grant Gustin) and Team Flash must figure out a way to subdue Cicada (Chris Klein) long enough to take it. Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) steps in to help with the plan. Meanwhile, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) eases back into work, and Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) isn't happy about the way her dad plans to stop Cicada. Viet Nguyen directed the episode written by Zack Stentz (#516). I've got a question, after reading the plot for the season and being reminded of how much Nora has screwed up the timeline. Perhaps someone can help me here.

- At the end of season 4, why exactly did Nora intervene and help Barry blow up the satellite? Was Barry not capable of doing it on his own? Why exactly did she intervene, and why was it necessary for her to do so?

@HeavyMetal4Life - I don't remember, but considering Dawn is working with Thawne if she did give a reason it was probably a lie anyway. For all we know she just didn't want to be a twin any longer and this was her way of writing Don Allen out.

And I refuse to call her Nora. The writers changed her name just to pretend no one guessed who it was, and that's just rustles my jimmies.

Ehh, tonight's episode was JUST OKAY. A bit disappointing it wasn't better to be honest. Some various thoughts below, but King Shark vs Grodd stuff was good, the rest not so much.

- Lol I think Team Flash's reaction to Cisco finishing the metahuman cure was emblematic of the audience's reaction too, lol.

- Something that become pretty tiresome by the 10 minute mark was the forced scientific dialogue that was essentially the shark scientist or Cisco reading the plot. Idk, just became annoying; you don't want to over explain something, and too much science talk can be a distraction (and I'm a scientist...), you shouldn't have to explain stuff that much and essentially walk the audience through a scene; no other CW DC show does that. Also didn't really care for the female marine biologist, she felt kind of forced and overall her portrayal was a bit bland imo. Didn't care for her relationship with Shark, no development and pretty sudden, no reason to get invested either.

- Barry standing up to Cisco and Caitlyn was good. He was right and they were extremely unrealistic and in the wrong; totally on Barry's side. This was extremely unnecessary forced drama right here. Thought it was very nice to see Barry be the bigger one and apologize. Although, isn't it a bit hypocritical for Caitlyn to put Grodd into a coma to save people but to chew Barry out for sticking someone with the cure to save Cisco??

- Why is Barry unable to dodge a blast from Killer Frost? Also, why do none of the team Flash members wear body cams in the field? People from Star labs were asking what was going on; why not have people put cameras on? Team Arrow does that.

- "Get the crown." WHY DID THE TWO SPEEDSTERS SLOW DOWN AND TRY TO WALK UP TO GET THE CROWN FROM GRODD????!?!?!?!?!?!?! Goddamn, what a bunch of IDIOTS!!! They could have had the crown off in a split second. Instead, they gave Grodd every opportunity to wake up. Biggest 'Kingpin flipping the table' moment of the night.

- Fight between Grodd and King Shark was pretty good, some pretty nice visuals. King Shark looked pretty great, they did a nice job with his VFX (except for when he was in the tank). Also, Barry and Nora teaming up to throw lightning at Shark and electrify him, that was a pretty nice visual too.

Forgot to mention that Lyla had a pretty sick burn against Barry, throwing some major shade about "waking up one morning and realizing your daughter is now your son." Also, was a bit disappointed there wasn't more Lyla in tonight's episode. Thought she would really be working with the team; instead she was just there for a handful of scenes.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Flash has superspeed, not Spidey-Sense. Flash can only dodge what he knows is coming, and he most certainly wasn't expecting to be fired at by Caitlin. And using that logic, how could Captain Cold stop Flash repeatedly in the comics? Flash at least knew he was being shot at.

@GAThrawnIGF - he's looking straight at Caitlyn; this isn't some trick shot from behind. He sees her gear up to fire at him, and he just stands there. If he is able to stop bullets fired out of a gun, then he can dodge a blast directed at him from the front. He should know that if Caitlyn is being controlled by Grodd, she's bound to be dangerous (considering Cisco just punched him).

Question about the promo for next week- how could Nora have any info on when her father defeats Cicada, if this Cicada is a) different from the initial version from her timeline, and b) killing much earlier than the timeline she is from?? How would she have any info on that??
