First Production Still & Scene Description From GAME OF THRONES Season 3

HBO have released our first official glimpse of the currently shooting third season of the epic fantasy drama series, along with a cryptic scene description involving two major characters locked in battle.

Here is the bones of the blog post. Cat Taylor describes a scene filmed on Wednesday gone in Clandeboye Forest in Belfast, Northern Ireland..

"It was an important rehearsal, and the two main protagonists are two of my season favorites: an unexpected pairing, whose war of words is almost as full-on as the fight. This struggle has been choreographed and rehearsed for weeks, with each move carefully placed to match the terrain. The fighters wore pads and fell on crash matts, though for the close-ups later in the week, during the first night shoot of the season, the landing would not be quite so comfortable. It will be a character-defining scene, for more than one who is involved, so it has to be done well.

More departments began to arrive for a full run-through. VFX was involved in creating the final moments of the scene, and special effects had a lot to do to make it all work. Armoury had designed a special weapon for this scene alone, and there was a nervous moment when it was first tested against the wood of a massive tree stump and the body of one of our brave stunt guys."

Now without that still above, I would have said she was describing a lengthy fight between Jaimie and Brienne from A Storm Of Swords. But if the image was snapped while the scene depicted was being shot - since that is clearly not Jaimie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) in the photo - I'm going to guess that she is describing a much more deadly sword fight between The Hound and Beric Dondarrion. What do you guys think?

i think the pic has nothing to do with the description.
i'm kinda worried tho... it seems like they might make brienne do vargo's work. if it actually is jaime/brienne and not sandor/beric.

Helen Sloan is the photographer, not the writer. Totally different person- if I'd written it, I wouldn't be to happy about that lack of credit. I think probably Brienne - maybe Arya?

Hmm.... My first thought was actually that the description was about the duel between the Mountain (Gregor Clegane) and that other guy. I completely forget his name. I think they called him the Viper? It's been a long time since I read any of the books. I remember they duel, and the Clegane has a gigantic-ass sword, and the other dude has a spear.

But on the other hand, I don't remember anything about a massive tree in that fight, and that picture doesn't really look like either of those two guys.

The comments about the "special weapon" and "a character-defining scene, for more than one who is involved" make me think it's the Hound and Dondarrion.
