As much as I liked him as Kelly Leak in Bad News Bears and as Rorschach in Watchmen, I'm iffy as him playing Freddy Krueger... he's like 5'4"!

but since you've seen Watchmen, you know how intimidating he can be. He's a LOT shorter than most of the cast in Watchmen, but in the graphic novel, he was taller than most of them, excluding the Comedian.

ummm I mean I know he played Rorschach...but why is this even on this site? Is there some Nightmare on Elm Street comic book i'm not aware of? Even if there is, is it even well known enough for anyone to even care lol?
I mean I like Hugh Jackman, but I dont think we ever had a discussion about kate and leopold on here, nor should we...ever!

I know most of you will be losing a lot of respect for me after this but i'm actually a HUMOUNGOUS fan of Freddie and Jason. Yes i know those movies suck but i LOVE THE HELL OUT OF'EM!!! And HAYLEY is actually PERFECT for the role. Given the fact that he is a stellar actor, i believe he will be able to land other oscar worthy roles even though he plays Freddie for the next additions to the franchise. After all, Jack Nicholson wasn't that much type cast after doing the Joker. When you're that good, you shouldn't worry.

And just to correct the article, there was in fact 7 elm street movies PLUS Freddie vs. Jason. The one you forgot was "New Nightmare" which was IMHO, one of the best.

You have to admit, though comedic at times, the NIGHTMARE franchise, had us all scared to go to sleep as kids! Especially after seeing ELM STREET 1 for the first time! lol

Freddy Krueger is one of the BEST AND ORIGINAL HORROR CONCEPTS EVER. :)

His Origin is FAR MORE kick-@$$, than ANY of the Movie Maniacs! (Though Rob Zombie's vision of Michael Myers was really good!)

If done RIGHT, he can bring fear to a whole new generation. I hope this re-launch doesn't disappoint. :)

good choice. is it a redo or a continuation? My interest in freddy began to wane because of robert england. Just started to dislike the guy on and off screen. He has this i'm think im way more awesome than i really am type of attitude. Hopefully no cameos by mr weirdo england.

This freakin' guy is gonna get so much damned work now. He has such a strong following after Watchmen, they're going to cast him as every off-putting role in history from now on.

SHAMAN KNOWS ALL
I agree that I am excited by this prospect and I can imagine this movie already in my mind
hes perfect for the role
and IF they do it well, it could bring back a truly terrifying concept to a time when the special effects could make the concept match the movie
aka: make the movie actually scary

I didnt think any of the Nightmare movies were scarey..even as a young kid watching the first one i just found it silly..and i was 9! They were sometimes entertaining though, but for the wrong reasons. I do agree that Freddy has a great origin and could be made to be very disturbing if done properly..but have any of you ever seen a horror remake done properly?

To me the coolest part of Freddy was how in each movie we'd find out a little bit more of his origin. I think that's a huge part of Wolverine's character's appeal, too. People will say that "Freddy's Dead" sucked and "Freddy vs. Jason" wasn't great (I thought they were awesome and fun) but there was a bunch of really cool origin stories revealed in both of those, too.

Rorschach, to me the reason Freddy was scary wasn't his appearance but it was the genius concept that he gets to you in your dreams and the fact of the matter is that everyone-- no matter how big and tough you are-- has to sleep and therefore you will eventually be forced to fight Freddy on his terms in his world if he so chooses.

To maybe explain a little better, things that scare me are things that we can't stop with our weapons and even a nuclear warhead wouldn't kill Freddy. You can't just shoot Freddy in the head or beat him in a fight. It was also great when someone would either think they forced him out of their dream or didn't even realize that they were asleep. Just some little things that mess with your mind. And when you're a little kid laying in bed in the dark getting ready to go to sleep and Freddy pops in your head you can't help but to start wondering if he'll come for you in your dream that night-- that is, if you aren't asleep already!

The reason he chose the role was because of the incredible amount of online support and fan enthusiasm for him to play the role! It started there, and this is where we are. I personally think he's a phenominal actor, and with the exposure that we're going to have of him soon, I hardly think that Freddie Krueger will pigeon hole him as an actor into obscurity!
I say good casting choice!

Dude! Jackie Earle Hayley! Seriously! It's about time Comicbookmovie gave me some good casting news! The last one i got was Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, man. Ugh! It's perfect! I mean, Robert Englund probably can't be replaced, but ya know, i also heard that Billy Bob Thorton was going to be the new Freddy. Which is better? Hayley? or Thorton?

BillyBlack - 4/6/2009, 1:06 PM
Well at least we already know he can play a good child molester, if they decide to take Freddy in that direction.

Hey SGA

Rorschach was short in the book too. He wore lifts to make himself seem taller, but he was still a shrimp. Even compared to his fellow "heroes".

I have to disagree. I thought the Texas Chainsaw remake was preety good. Not great, but I wouldn't put it in the "sucked" category. Lee Emory had some great scenes, and it's hard to completely hate a movie where Jessica Beil runs around in a soakin wet, white wife-beater and no bra for 75% of the film. It seemed like they found an excuse to drench her every time she started to dry out :) now THAT'S creative writing!

@BillyBlack--LOL Dude, you are SO RIGHT! Creative Writing at it's BEST!

Everytime the scene where Jessica Beil is walking toward the house through the field, and they do the close up shot of her @$$, my homeboys and I pause it for like 5-10 minutes just saying: "WOW! Oh, Wow! DUDE! Oh. Man! WOW! OH MY GAWD!!!"

Then we all toast our beers at the T.V. LOL

Good Times. Good Times. :)
