We're still waiting on a proper teaser for HBO and Damon Lindelof's mysterious Watchmen series, but three cryptic new promos have now been shared over at on the show's Instagram page.

While the brief videos don't contain any actual footage, they do feature some intriguing callbacks to Alan Moore's original story.

The first is a clear reference to The Black Freighter (the pirate story that accompanies the main narrative), while the second shows an American flag with 51 stars, signifying Vietnam's arrival as the 51st state. The final teaser seems to be a nod to Doctor Manhattan's little trip to Mars.

Lindelof has said that this won't be anything like a direct adaptation, and the reveal that Jeremy Irons will be playing an older version of Ozymandias obviously suggests that it'll actually be closer to a sequel.

We'll find out for sure when Watchmen premieres later this year, but for now, check out the teasers below and let us know what you think.
