AGATHA: COVEN OF CHAOS - Joe Locke Has Seemingly Been Confirmed As MCU's Billy Kaplan/Wiccan

There have been rumblings this might be the case for a while now, but some newly surfaced intel appears to confirm that actor Joe Locke has been cast as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Young Avenger, Wiccan.

There have been rumblings for several months (if not longer) that Joe Locke will play Wiccan in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, but his role as "Billy" now appears to have been confirmed by the actor's stand-in.

Billy is, of course, the name of Wanda Maximoff and The Vision's son. Alongside his twin brother, Tommy, they were wiped from existence when the Scarlet Witch took down the Hex surrounding Westview in WandaVision. While comic book fans know that their teenage counterparts are the Young Avengers known as Wiccan and Speed, it's not quite that simple.

When Wanda lost her children in the comic books (after creating them through Chaos Magic), their souls inhabited Billy Kaplan and Thomas Shepard. So, they both are and aren't the Avenger's kids, but thanks to their "mother," the duo were granted incredible powers.

Just like what we saw in WandaVision, Wiccan is a powerful magician while Speed has his uncle Quicksilver's powers.

Presumably, something is going to happen that leads to Agatha tracking Billy down in Agatha: Coven of Chaos. Perhaps she wants his abilities for herself or hopes to train the boy in an effort to make things right after previously crossing paths with Wanda. It depends on whether she's remaining on a villainous path or will find redemption in this spin-off.

Marvel Studios appears to have no concrete plans for the Young Avengers in the MCU. Instead, it seems these younger heroes will just form part of the next generation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes once we bid a final farewell to the original six at the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.

Agatha: Coven of Choas is currently expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2024.

Was there ever any doubt that's who he'd be?

I wonder how this works as Billy doesn’t exist in the mcu universe.

This show will make Ms Marvel’s viewership look good.

@mountainman - Technically that was good. Just lower than other mcu shows. People forget how massive these shows are.

@Shadow77 - I’ve heard mostly good things about it. Didn’t see it so I have no personal opinion as to it’s quality. Just commenting on viewership numbers here.

The problem with a reactionary creation of a series based off of a one-off song that got popular on Twitter is that it's been so long that I'd doubt many people retained their level of excitement for Agatha.

She's such an odd character to dedicate a series to, especially because the decision was made before Wandavision even ended and Agatha (imo) ran out of steam.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Katherine Hahn in the role, but yea part of the issue Marvel had in Phase 4 was a largely unfocused narrative and not spending enough time with new characters to elicit an emotional connection with audiences, and I don't see how this is going to help. Unless Agatha is going to be a key player moving forward, but I just don't see that happening.

They're setting up a "passing the torch" moment in the next avengers movie, Legacy characters budding up these young avengers so audiences can appreciate and accept the new avengers on the big screen.

@BraxtonHicks - Yeah, but who likes these new characters? They haven't done a great job of building up a winning roster so far.

@BraxtonHicks - they’ve already passed the torch for most every original Avenger.

- Steve Rodgers > Sam Wilson
- Iron Man > Ironheart
- Hulk > She-Hulk
- Hawkeye > Kate Bishop
- Natasha > Yelena
- Fury > Valentina

Thor is the only one that hasn’t officially passed the torch, but Hemsworth seems done with the role.

@Shivermetimbers - This. They haven't really done anything to make care for these younger heroes outside of, "Oh, I love those characters from the comics!" So, good luck with that. Just reboot and give us new actors for the Avengers and X-Men at this point.
BraxtonHicks
BraxtonHicks - 4/28/2023, 6:27 PM
@mountainman - there hasn't been a real passing the torch moment besides Steve to Sam with the shield, not really.
BraxtonHicks
BraxtonHicks - 4/28/2023, 6:28 PM
@RitoRevolto - Secret Wars will more than likely be the moment they all come together and there will be a true moment of acceptance between the original and these new avengers.

@BraxtonHicks - You’re right. But that doesn’t mean the legacy characters haven’t taken over.

@BraxtonHicks - That's likely bound to happen, I just happen it's just written and delivered well. Like, give this new blood something that makes us go "OH?! Okay!" to get everyone's attention.
