This week has been an exciting and frustration experience as fans have seen the cancellation and renewal of numerous shows across several networks. Just earlier today, the universally panned Inhumans was official cancelled, but that wasn’t the Marvel show fans have been worried about. Instead, that prize goes to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Nearly ever since the poor to mixed reception of the first season, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been at risk of cancellation. Fortunately for fans, the show has proven to be as hard to kill as its heroes, earning four more seasons which have been received better than the first.
However, with its less than stellar ratings, and the fact that we’ve heard nothing about the show’s future, fans have grown worried that the upcoming season finale will be the show’s last.
Thanfully, fans may finally be able to put an end to their speculation, as The Hollywood Reporter’s Lesley Goldberg says an official decision will be announced “in the coming days.”
Of course, this won’t put fans of the series at ease, but, with the finale still being promoted as a season finale rather than a series finale, some maintain hope of seeing another season. Still, even if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does come to an end, we should expect a fulfilling conclusion as the showrunners have stated that the season finale can act as a satisfying series finale if they don’t receive an additional season.
