Not long after Ms. Marvel breathed her last (though we recently learned that she will return as a mutant), Marvel Comics has announced plans to kill off Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight.

The publisher shared a teaser for a new storyline titled "The Last Days of Moon Knight" earlier this week, and has now confirmed (via AIPTComics.com) that Spector will meet his maker in a new 3-part story from writer Jed MacKay and artist Alessandro Cappuccio starting this October with issue #28.

Though Spector will undoubtedly return at some point, it sounds like another character will be taking up the Moon Knight mantle for the foreseeable future.

“Almost all the pieces are now on the board - on one side, Moon Knight and his allies in the Midnight Mission, and on the other, the Black Spectre, his creatures, and his plan for New York,” MacKay explained. “We’ve been building towards this confrontation since #19, and starting with MOON KNIGHT #28, Moon Knight and the Black Spectre go to war. It’s not just a question of victory but survival itself. The Midnight Mission is already cloaked in the black of mourning."

Check out the cover art for issue #28 below, along woth a story synopsis.

Marc Spector’s journey reaches a climactic end. Running from MOON KNIGHT #28-30, “The Last Days of Moon Knight” will see Moon Knight in a deadly race to intercept the Black Spectre before his apocalyptic schemes bear fruit — but the clock is ticking, and a city hangs in the balance. And when the dust settles, a new vengeance will be born.

Oh no, dead? We'll never see him alive in a comic ever again dead?!

@ObserverIO - Nope. That's it man. Dead is dead. Comics are just like real life. Once you're dead, you're dead. Unless, you know, you're a zombie. Or a vampire. Or Frankenstein's monster. Or Elvis. Or JFK Jr. Or... you know what? Forget it brought it up.

As long as it's "actually super-powered beating up thor" Marc that died. We'll keep the "mentally ill guy we don't know what's real with who's real superpower is clever thinking and his own insanity" Marc.

The same way they get super heros to job and prop up other heroes, they should do the same with Moon Knightand pit him against Green Goblin.

Place your bets, how long will Moon Knight be dead for?

@IronTwigg - Cyclops: "You'll understand Marlene. Not today. But soon."

@IronTwigg - 2 years, give or take 2 months. Though I bet his ghost sticks around the new Moon Knight, like Iron Man's totally-not-a-ghost hologram stuck around for Iron Heart, and they'll say it's Konchu taking his form to look friendlier or something.

@IronTwigg - I'm putting the over/under at 7 months.

Never ending events, recycling events, constantly killing main characters, and inserting lazy political takes are all wrong with comics today.

@SirDuckAlot -oooh I know this one- what are things that have been apart of comics for nearly 50 years?
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 7/17/2023, 2:22 PM
@ShimmyShimmyYA - some parts even longer than that

@ShimmyShimmyYA - I definitely remember the days when DC and Marvel constantly killed their main characters and have them replaced in the 70s and 80s. I remember the constant events every month that would affect every book. I remember them recycling events like Civil War and Secret Wars constantly. I remember the constant beating over the head of political takes. I see you don't read much comics.

@SirDuckAlot - So by "all wrong with comics today" you mean the time since the bronze age 50 years ago up to today? lol

But politics haven’t been part of comics 🤣🤣🤣

@1stDalek - Comics been going slowly down hill since the 90s. The numbers show it but sure there's been great runs since then.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - Did I ever say politics weren't part of comics? No. All I'm saying is comics are less nuanced and more preachy.

Complete stunt but McKay did death of dr strange which was pretty interesting. I’ll check this out, why the hell not I be been getting it since it was relaunched 2 years ago.

If it’s relaunched with a strong creative team I’ll check it out.

If not ehhh, no loss if I drop title.I still have this run and Lemires run from a few years ago to dip into.

I have this weird feeling though their going to make Layla El-Faouly the new Moon knight. David Pepose is writing a concurrent moon knight coming out soon called city of the dead which has Layla El-Faouly‘s comic debut.
