Late last year, we learned that Ahsoka reportedly features a recreation of the battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker from Revenge of the Sith.
However, in that sequence, Ahsoka Tano will take the place of Obi-Wan, revealing what would have happened had she confronted her former Master on Mustafar. The scene supposedly plays out inside the World Between Worlds, a location fans of Star Wars Rebels will know is a potential game-changer for this franchise.
It was in that series we saw Ahsoka pulled to safety from her battle with Darth Vader by a future Ezra Bridger, saving her life in the process. So, is Star Wars about to introduce time travel and the Multiverse? Yes and no.
Based on the latest update from Making Star Wars (via SFFGazette.com), it doesn't appear we're getting a deep dive into any alternate timelines. However, viewers will get to see glimpses of them as Ahsoka witnesses possible alternate timelines while walking down a corridor full of mirrors showing what her life could have been.
There's also going to be a pretty major "cameo," and while it's unclear whether Ewan McGregor has shot anything for Ahsoka, we will get to see Obi-Wan again. Well, his corpse, anyway.
"They filmed a sequence where Ahsoka sees herself on Mustafar fighting Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader before he’s in the suit. They are new scenes," the site explains. "They had a dummy for a dead Kenobi and they had clothes for a dead Kenobi."
"They had two ideas there. One is Anakin literally kills Kenobi in that fight where the idea would be Ahsoka and Kenobi confront Darth Vader. Another is he turns into a pile of clothes just like he always did - he becomes one with the Force at that time in the narrative."
We're excited to see how this all plays out and ties together but can't say we're remotely surprised Dave Filoni is exploring Star Wars lore in this way.
However, it's worth noting you should likely temper expectations about the length of this scene on Mustafar as it's probably not a full-blown recreation of Revenge of the Sith's epic final battle.
The first two episodes of Ahsoka premiere on August 23.
