THE MANDALORIAN Reveals The New Wielder Of The Darksaber As The Final 2 Episodes Beckon - SPOILERS

The Darksaber has long been an important part of Mandalorian culture and the iconic blade finally returned to one of its original owners in the latest episode of The Mandalorian

Created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian ever inducted into the Jedi Order, we first came across it in the hands of Pre Viszla, the leader of Death Watch. After he was killed by Maul, the weapon remained in the former Sith's possession until it was retrieved by Sabine Wren from a Nightsister lair on Dathomir.

She'd later give it to Bo-Katan Kryze who reluctantly accepted and agreed to use it to lead their people. However, Moff Gideon's attack on Mandalore meant it fell into Imperial hands and it was in The Mandalorian's season 1 finale that we saw him wield it for the first time.

When the show's second season rolled around, Din Djarin defeated the villain during his quest to rescue Grogu and took the blade. He never really wanted it and has since proved that he can't wield it (at least not well).

After Bo-Katan defeats that returning season 2 character - read more about them here - she's still rejected by her fellow Nite Owls because the Darksaber is in the hands of a "misguided zealot" who has no Mandalorian blood in him. These people will never see Din as Mandalore's rightful leader, while his own coven doesn't put as much stock in the blade as them, anyway.

Alas, those of you hoping to see the bounty hunter emerge as Mandalore's rightful ruler are likely to be disappointed as he steps forward to explain that, while exploring their planet, the Darksaber was taken from him by that sinister alien/droid hybrid. It was Bo-Katan who retrieved it from the creature, thereby once again making her its rightful owner.

With that, she takes the weapon and ignites it, securing the loyalty of these followers and setting the stage for her, the person who saw that Mythosaur, remember, as Mandalore's future ruler.

As for Din...well, it's hard to say how he'll fit into this.

ALL HAIL JACK BLACK, THE ONE TRUE KING OF WESTEROS AND MANDALORE!!

This was a strange episode. I didnt hate it but the Christopher Lloyd, jack Black stuff. They are known for comedy really. and Lizzo? If they had serious actors, I think the episode would have been a lot better. Din has taken a back seat in his own series. Grogu basically is just a mascot. There hasn't been anything meaningful with him the entire season. If you cut the filler, the meaningful parts could have been done in two long episodes.

Taonrey - 4/6/2023, 12:34 AM
@AvalonX - he's a baby, there will never be anything meaningful for the character to do, definitely since his race Agee's so slowly, Most u can do is a kidnap subplot, Should've stayed with Luke.
LlamaLord
LlamaLord - 4/6/2023, 12:58 AM
@AvalonX - Why did they even bring him back. If he was still with Luke this season would have gone slightly better. He has literally done nothing of value this season.

@LlamaLord - Toys. You can't sell merch if he is out of public consciousness too long. I guarantee Grogu still being in this show is a call made higher up the food chain than Filoni and they obviously have no idea how to handle him now that his storyline has been played out as much as possible in the current timeline. They have no idea what to do with Din either now obviously so why not dedicate this season to Bo Katan and getting the band back together again?

@Zer0squad - Din being tied down to Grogu hurt the character, I wouldn't even be surprised if they made Bo the main character because of it(she's also way more interesting) there no way they Filoni and Farveau wanted to bring Grogu back this early.

My brother has a theory that they are hyping up Bo cause she is going to die at the end of the season. And after she unites Mandalore. She gets killed and Din becomes the new leader.

@Mrnorth1921 - I think it's because they don't know what to do with Din since higher ups probably forced them to bring Grogu back. Last season made it seem like Bo and Din would be fighting each other.

This was an incredibly odd episode. It felt like the mods from Book of boba Fett but for an entire movie.

It just made no sense. Now if this droid mission tied back into Din getting the part for IG-11 then it would have made sense, but this was just a strange mission only to give them something to do before they are allowed to talk to the other Mandalorians.

But why set up that early mission to abduct/rescue that member of the Calamari royal family?

They could have very easily revisited that and had Din and Bo hired by the Quarren family to investigate who abducted that Calamari then they discover it was the Mandalorian faction and they have to pursue and fight each other.

It would have been an awesome pursuit and fight. Bo and Din vs all of them.
Then Bo would challenge their leader and earn their respect.

And FFS I called that dark saber hand off in the mines of mandalore episode. Din was beaten by the crab robot, who took his saber then Bo beat the crab monster.
It was so obvious...and it robbed us of Bo and Din actually having to fight in a ceremony.

I also hated how they redubbed Moff Gideon's line from the last episode of Season2.
He said, "to get the dark saber she will have to beat you IN COMBAT"
In this redub he said, "...IN BATTLE"

That is a cheap way to get around the combat required.

Not a good episode. Not at all.

@TyrantBossMedia - This makes no sense. Bo has made it very clear that she is not a mercenary so why would she get hired? Din is along with her to help unite the Mandalorians so he wouldn't be made available either. Look 80% of the episode was useless filler, but so what? It felt like many episodes of "The Clone Wars" with a random side quest thrown in. Hell it actually felt like a KOTOR side quest tbh. It was fine, if strange. But Star Wars needs to have a good dose of strange thrown in the mix now and then.

And everyone called the Darksaber thing. Literally. Everyone. But it makes enough sense, crab beats Din(in combat), Din loses Darksaber and gets captured. Bo saves Din, uses the Darksaber he lost to kill the crab(in combat) that beat him. It's fine. The only strange thing was waiting till now to give the Darksaber to Bo, but it's also understandable why story wise.

The episode was fine all around, if strange. Star Wars fans are just way too entitled nowadays for anyone's good.

@Zer0squad - I agree! As someone raised with video games, it felt like a cool quest
TyrantBossMedia
TyrantBossMedia - 4/6/2023, 8:38 AM
@Zer0squad - “ Bo has made it very clear that she is not a mercenary so why would she get hired?”

Yet she was then hired by the royal family to hunt down the droids and solve the mystery.

I do admit that I said to my wife, “this feels like KOTOR”, but it it also felt forced.

It’s not about entitlement slick, it’s about continuity and this seems forced into this universe and just didn’t work.

Why do you guys seem to take any justified criticism of Star Wars so personally.?
Zer0squad
Zer0squad - 4/6/2023, 7:24 PM
@TyrantBossMedia - Bo and Din were not hired, they weren't even paid. They had to resolve the droid problem as a condition to be allowed to meet with the Mandalorians since they WERE hired mercenaries for the planet and thus access to them was completely under their control.

And no, I'm sure you don't feel entitled, the entitled never do. Social media has made it so that everyone thinks that their opinion should matter and that they somehow have a right to see their vision of things play out. But no, it's simple. You either watch a thing or you don't. That's all the real power you or any fan has. This thing, that you and all Star Wars fans do where you watch something, then get online to bitch about how things should be, all while still watching, that's entitlement.

@Zer0squad - And how ironic that you mention choice because when it comes to online posts you either respond or you don’t.
You only give credence to a comment when you respond and keep responding about something that you then try to say doesn’t matter.

This show has become a PARODY of itself. What awful writing this season has had. That ending was ass, sad to say.
dracula

How long will that last

Would be pretty disappointing if they built up him wielding the dark saber just to give it up so quickly, might as well have had her get it at the end of season 2 if this is how it was going to go.

Could have had some kind of conflict between them, with Din basically being forced into a leadership position, coming into conflict with Bo and ending with Din proving himself worthy as Mandalord

Could have gone full on Game Of Thrones
