Castlevania Is As Dead As Dracula

Castlevania Is As Dead As Dracula

The Paul W.S. Anderson Big Screen adaption of the blockbuster 80's Castlevania video game and later turned into a Comic Book in the 90's is not going to be incinerated by daylight anytime soon.

Word is from around the block that Castlevania once to be written by Paul W.S. Anderson has officially bit the dust. Jonathan Frakes was originally signed to star as Simon Belmont in a tale of Dracula's origins and how The Belmont Clan came to be one of humanity's last stand for survival against Dracula's blood thirsty legions. Sylvain White was attached to direct. But no more. Castlevania has been stuck in development hell for the last two years. Bye Bye Belmont.

I am glad that we wont be seeing Jonathan Frakes as Simon Belmont, there are so many other actors that deserve a shot at that role. If done right this would be a kick ass movie. As long as the studios kept all the cheese out of there. I really enjoyed playing the original Castlevania game when I was a kid. If this property ever gets revisited the studio should try and capture the essence of the video game and incorporate that into the movie. Hire a young lead to play Simon Belmont, not someone who is older like Frakes. Oh well, maybe we will never know how Castlevania could have turned out.

Jonathan Frakes...Really...DarkAVengers, he was #1 commander Ryker on Star Trek Next Generation..Unless it is a different Frakes.. This would be a cool movie if done right but then again they haven't done a decent video game movie yet.

FRAKES? DUDE I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING FOR YOUNG AND FIGHTWORTHY.NO WONDER IT GOT PUSHED TO LIMBO, THEYRE WAITING FOR A YOUNG FAMOUS DUDE IN THE TITLE ROLE AND A FX EXTRAVAGANZA OF MONSTERS AND ACTION.VAN HELSING DID AWSOME WHEN IT CAME OUT AND ACTUALLY BECAME THE HIGHEST GROSSING VAMPIRE MOVIE, TRUE THERE WERE OTHER MONSTERS BUT IT WAS PUT IN THE CATAGORY..MAYBE THEY SHOULD GO THAT ROUTE

MarkCassidy - 5/26/2009, 10:16 AM
Yeah, but Van Helsing sucked ass! If you want to make a horror movie then make a horror movie, not a lively "romp" with cartoons instead of some of the most famous movie monsters in history. It was like watching Scooby [frick]in Doo.

Im just amazed that Hollywood is still trying to make these movies, there has never been a good one, There has never even been a half decent one..well, Silent Hill had its moments, and Mortal Kombat was fun..when i was 12.

For everyone that doesn't know, the movie "Van Helsing" is very close to the escence of Castlevania(being a gothic action adventure and not a horror film) except Dracula doesn't look like a panzy this time around. Dracula would look more along the line of "Wolfgang Krauser" in Fatal Fury. And Frakes was way wrong for this role so it's not all bad news but still... I've been waiting forever for this film since i am the biggest Castlevania fan i know.

Roar- Prince of Persia doesn't seem to be cursed from the onset. And i was looking forward to see Paul Anderson's take on it too. If he had incorporated the atmosphere of Event Horizon in a Van Helsing-ish film, it would have been great... that is IF you like the "genre". I myself didn't like Van Helsing because i felt as you did that it was an excuse to portray the "famous beasts" from the oldie horror flicks in a retarded manner, but it had it's cool moments.

HEY NOW IT WAS ENTERTAINING,EVEN THOUGH I HATED THE WAY THEY DID FRANKENSTIEN...IT STILL MADE HELLA MOOLAH..SO EVEN THOUGHT MOST PEOPLE WILL SAY SOMETHING, THE NUMBERS SPEAK FOR IT
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 5/26/2009, 10:34 AM
I actually loved the concept, i just hated everything else about it! From the acting to the script to the "Special" effects. And yeah, i mean why make a movie about 3 famous horror icons and not make it a horror movie? If they had made it R and hired a director other than Sommers it might have worked.

Well, Prince Of Persia may not be cursed..but it could still suck!

Roar- In my book it's already begun to suck since Bylenthal is the main role!!! And if you loved Van Helsing's "concept" (the only good thing about the film aside from Beckinsale's tight pants) then you'd love Castlevania. Paul Anderson would have nailed it too. Now it's up for grabs and Uwe Boll is always fishing... Anybody knows a good hitman???

@SpiderMan209 hells ya those are the two i would love to see the most too, after watching Iron Man i have wanted to see a Metriod movie even more then before, and if they did Mega Man something like Casshern then it would work nicely.

Both Mega Man and Metriod have excellent storylines and a lot of material to pull from with the right writer and director these two could not go wrong.

Oh and no castlevania = a sad Osiris, I've been waiting fro this for awhile now i love the games i got a NDS just to play the handheld games

Yeah Castlevania and Mega-Man were my two favorite games (until Bioshock came out), so movies would be great but Im with Grif on this one, if they are going to do them, they got to do them epic-style! No corner or cost cutting on these ones.

Now I think about it, a Mega-Man movie would be sweet. Can you imagine mega-man travelling to each world, with a boss fight each time while making his way to Willy. That would be awesome.

Man!!! I've been a fan of Castlevania for some time, and this just really bites the big one. Oh well... granted video games adapted to movies typically suck, it still would have been nice to have seen it.

Shadowelfz- DUDE, i need to know what bioshock is and what it's about. I wanna buy it but i need to know first :))

Grif has a valid point. But i feel that if they were able to make Van Helsing, they should be able to make Castlevania if they tone it down just slightly. Or else, get James Cameron on the deal and make it like Avatar :))

I know, i just like the sight of'em :))

And if you're into gothic action adventure games, Castlevania pretty much started the genre! And it still kicks ass to this day :)) Now i wish they'd go back to 2D but with a 3D edge like the new "Street Fighter 4" game!!! That would ROCK!!!

Shaman- You can check out the complete story and so on online, but ill give a very brief summery-

Bioshock is about a man whose plane crashes somewhere in the ocean (atlantic I think) who stumbles upon the entrance to a secret society that was built underwater known as Rapture. The people of Rapture were sick of the medding of goverments and religions in the progress of mankind and technology so they decided to seperate themselves from the rest of society.

Here, man is unbound by any moral law and science is developed unfettered, particularly genetics. Through genetic engineering, the scientists found you can give someone abilities, such as telekinesis and pyrokineses (abilities you acquire alongside your typical arsenal of guns and bigger guns). Yet, something is amiss, and when the protagonist arrives, he finds that everyone is insane, including Raptures megolomaniacal leader Andrew Ryan.

I wont go any further cause the story is filled with amazing plot twists that I dont want to ruin. The game is amazing, with the best level design ive seen... well ever. Your basically in a city underwater built upon early twentieth century technology (complete with the garish neon signs, architecture, creepy jazz music and tommy gun like weapons of the time). The fighting is intense (especially with the very scary big-daddys) and there is a lot of horror injected in the story. Its common to come upon rooms covered in blood and bodies, half-dismembered corpses in medical rooms and decrepit scenery). And to make matters worse, everyone there is completely nuts, with all the enemies gibbering nonsensical lines while randomly choosing to attack you or just walking by. It really gives you a sense of paranoia.

Trust me man, this is videogaming at its finest. I dont care what Roger Ebert says, the plot and twists of this 'game' will rival any classic movie you've ever seen!

Shaman - 5/26/2009, 2:09 PM
Nice :)) So you got telekinesis and stuff? That kicks ass, is it a shooter or more of a action adventure? More hack and slash or more puzzle oriented like Resident evil?
Osiris

Bioshock is an FPS with magic, there are some puzzles.

if you want it to be anything like RE you will be disappointed Shaman, I didn't really care for playing Bioshock i think it was the story it was dull to me but i liked the characters and how crazy they are, the magic was fun to mess with but the game was your basic FPS
Hellmont

In my opinion Castlevania's Main Character should look like a cross between Arnie from Conan the Barbarian and Indiana Jones. A Strong willed Crazy MotherF#CKER, who is Smart, versed in Ancient Transylvanian/Pagan DarK Arts and Cristian Lore. One who can speak for the Belmont Clan and do their name Justice. Not some corny-candy ass Brandon Fraiser. I want to see a bloodbath some thing that would make the Jappanese say:

That's F#CKED UP!!!

...... and as Evil as the first time you ever wathced the Exorcist.

@Osiris---Rock on, Osiris! They need to make these movies, already!

AH! CHRIS PINE FOR MEGA-MAN! :)

John Malkovich for Dr. Wily! lol jk

A METROID MOVIE WOULD KICK @$$!

But keep Samus Aran on a solo mission! Don't send her with a team, or it'll just be another ALIENS rip-off! :P

And give Samus Aran GREEN HAIR like the first game did! :)

Osiris is right Bioshock is a first-person shooter where you switch between guns and your 'magic' like skills, so you can't have an aversion to that kinda genre to enjoy it (though there is a lot more attention paid to detail and level design than your average corridor shooter game). I'm surprised you didnt like the story, O? I guess it was kinda slow moving at first, but thats what most mystery stories do to build up suspense, ya know? Thats cool though, everybody has their own tastes in storytelling and games. To each their own. I wont berate you like a lot of people do on this sight ;)

Honestly, I'd suggest renting the game first since each person has their own opinion on good games its hard to judge what a person would like. I did, and got about halfway through the game, then took it back and bought it right there. Or you might just take it back. With games costing 60 bucks these days I wouldn't suggest buying it unless you know you're gonna like it, know what I mean? ;)

Grif come on man, i never said i liked Van Helsing, i HATED it dude!!! BUT, it had vercy decent "effects"(similar to underworld) which could be sufficient for a decent Castlevania movie. They just need to write a damn good script about it which obviously they didn't do with Vanny. And also get a better cast than freakin Frakes!!!

Hellmont- LOL, yeah that'd be cool :)

Osiris & Shadowelfz- I normally hate FPS's but i did very much enjoy "Echo Night Beyond" for the PS2, that was the shit but i found it waaaaayyyyyy too hard!!! Couldn't get passed the first half hour!!! Plus BIOSHOCK is only 20$ brand new where i live so it's not that expensive. I just don't wanna buy it if the puzzles are too complicated and if the control is shitty. If you say it's made in the same scarry manner as ENB but easier, I'M SOLD!!!

I still remember the phrase from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest when nightfal came..."What a terrible night to have a curse." That game was fun. Too bad for the film, probably would have sucked anyway.
