First I think the game is great. The play control is very responsive and accurate and the three modes of movement (flight, acrobatics and speed) all perform very well. I am partial to acrobatics myself but most seem to prefer flying. The graphics are phenomenal. I was not too impressed at first but then I turned them up from the default settings and the details greatly improved.
I am not too thrilled with the interface, which leads to my first desire; improve the interface. For those of you familiar with MMO's you know you put your skills and feats in hotkey slots and can then activate those feats by hitting a corresponding number. DCUO works the same way but you can only use 6 slots at a time (8 if you count one for health drinks and one for trinkets). You do have the ability to spec-out three versions of this hot bar, and for those of you who do not know this you can switch between them by hitting [t] on the keyboard when you are not in combat (only after lvl 10). This brings me to my next desire, give me more slots or allow me to switch hot bars in combat. 6 abilities are very limiting; especially when I have 14 to choose from.
Next let's talk about the storyline. It is amazing! You have Brainiac coming to take over the world as the underlying plot and a whole bucket-load of sub-plots to get you to your primary objective. The game is completely voiced and many of the characters voices are familiar from the DC cartoons. For those of us familiar with the DC Universe some of the explanations given when facing an enemy we know well may seem overkill but remember not everyone playing knows the DC Universe as well as others.
I play on a PVP server so I want to mention that here. The PVP servers are a lot of fun. But if you choose to play on one be prepared to get owned by higher lvl enemies and get frustrated. All I can say is if a bunch of enemies are camping the area you need do another quest or try to find some allies to clear the area for you. I tried playing the honor route and let lower lvl enemies run their quest when we are around each other; my honor got me jumped so now I kill the low lvl pukes with no mercy or remorse when they are in my area (and they kill me back). But it is all in good fun, if you can’t take it there are plenty of PVE servers that will suit you just fine.
In closing I would like to mention grouping. You can do instanced quest that will put you into a group because they are in group zones. You can form groups with friends and allies for shared areas of Metropolis and Gotham (did I mention these two cities are massive and visually stunning {thanks Jim Lee}). And the coolest part is you do not have to be in a group with your allies to help them or reap the benefits of shared fights. If you see an ally fighting a mob you need help her kill it, you will both get credit. If you save an ally and they proceed to activate a trigger you need in the same encounter you will get credit for that. If your enemies jump you like the pukes they are and some allies rush in they can save your sorry behind. This makes for a very fun cooperative environment.
Play DC Universe Online and kick some Brainiac head in.
Good Luck
