Mass Effect -- Massive Movie?

With the inspiring success of Bioware's latest and greatest Mass Effect series, it's no surprise that a movie may be on the horizon.

Mass Effect was a gaming experience that could change lives. It is difficult to forget such an epic and awe-inspiring adventure. Naturally there would be rumors of a movie. If done correctly it could be another "Watchmen" (for those who liked/loved the movie).

MTV popped the question to Bioware's Casey Hudson, the Project Director of Mass Effect.

His response:
"Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture about Mass Effect," he says. "The most important thing for us is, we don't just want to see a movie get made. We want to see a great movie get made, if it's going to get done at all.".

At least the game's creators sound hopeful. Not only do we have that good news, but it is rumored that Avi Arad is said to have picked up the film rights to Mass Effect back in 2008.

Concerning Avi Arad, Casey Hudson said, "We're just looking at our options there, but waiting to make sure we have something really right before we do it."

Great choice of words. Thumbs up.

Personally, I would love to see Commander Shepard look like the one I use(d) on Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. He looks like me! But this could potentially be amazing. Imagine the epicness.

I would LOVE to see this made. Mass Effect 1 and 2 were both incredible, and it could make one hell of an awe-inspiring game.

Also, I'll only say it one time - First.

mass effect 2 is one of the best games i've played in YEARS! the first was awesome too. but no to a movie. there is no way those games can be done in a faithful way.

you make the Watchmen comparison, but there is way too much going on in these games to cover it all.

lOVED THE GAMES AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE A MOVIE DONE ONLY IF IT WAS DONE RIGHT AND NOT DONE JUST TO GET DONE.

They don't need to make a movie about Shepard and the stories from the games, but a new unique story just set in the Mass Effect universe. It certainly is both interesting and vast enough...

hmm... I'm still working through my first run-through of ME2. I don't even know if I finished the first one lol I rented it, but I'm pretty sure I didn't. I needed/wanted more than 7 days! lol The game is the epitome of the term "epic". It really and truely is. This is the first game I have ever played where I don't so much care about the gameplay (though I do) as much as I care about the story and the characters! I can't wait for ME3 but I still have to do multiple run-throughs of ME2 first, and maybe even get ME1 when it comes down more in price.
Having said that, I'm on the fence about a movie. (mostly on the side of wanting one.)
The story and characters and acting (though it's done partially by actors and partially by computers) are done so right, it would be ashame to try to mimic or out-do them on the big screen w/ real actors. *insert long rant about my feelings and the amazingness that is ME2.
Heck, I just say throw the actual game itself up on the big screen and have someone play it up in the booth lol
I think this is one of those games where it's almost as much fun to watch as it is to play.... almost :)

btw, can anyone tell me (that has played/finished ME2) if you lose someone's loyalty (i.e. love interest) due to thinking you were doing the right thing, if you can get it back? and also, if you fail to gain the loyalty of a member, do you get another chance in the same play-through to get his/her loyalty?
PERSONAL STATS:
Everyone is loyal (or will be loyal) except for:
Thane- failed to help him.
The Merc- did the right thing and evidently he doesn't dig that (which also brings up the point that in ME1, i remember actually changing ppl's sides. Like if you gained a mate that was mostly evil, if you showed them how to be good, they would change. where is that now?)
Miranda- Had her loyalty but lost it defending someone who was mistreated as a child and has always been persecuted for it.
sorry for these long rants lol the game is just so amazing ;)

@ manofiron

i know what you mean, man, lol. i'm totally addicted to this game right now! you really should get ME1 and play through it. carrying your character over and all the decisions you made from the first game truly is groundbreaking, and makes this one that much more epic!

i'm not sure about the loyalty questions though, i haven't lost anyone's loyalty, the only one i failed to get was thane, but i don't really care about that because i mostly use Miranda or Samara and either Grunt or Garrus. for the merc (i assume you mean Zaeed) you need to let the people burn alive in the building when you're helping him on his mission.

remember, its near impossible to keep all your characters happy and loyal. what you do to keep one character happy, might royally piss off another character. but thats the name of the game! you need to decide whether you want to be a "good guy" or a selfish prick, and stick with that. i made my decision based on the characters i like using. i don't care if i don't have the loyalty of characters i never use. :)

I'm down for this, If done right this would make one epic movie. I just hope they wait till the 3rd game is released so they have the entire story to work off of for the movies.

Avi Arad is the one that made all of the $h1+y marvel movies: Elektra, Daredevil, Man-Thing. I don't want him touching my beloved Mass Effect!

I think they should start with Mass Effect 1 plot so the ending is an epic cliff hanger (the beginning of Mass Effect 2 with Normandy 1 blowing up and what follows...*hint*). That should be the ending of the film, with Sheppard falling to orbit from space. Then in the sequel, he'd be all scared up like in ME2.

I just got it and I'm playing through it, the Bring Down The Sky DLC could be a movie in it's own, such a massive world. If J.J. Abrams made it it'd be great, I keep on getting a Trek vibe when I play it.
