The Spider-Man director has a real passion for adapting the online videogame.

At the Saturn Awards last night Steve "Frosty" Weintraub grabbed some great stuff with GDT and Sam Raimi. Here, he talks quite a bit about World of Warcraft. It sounds like he is very familiar with the game and wants to make sure the movie would recreate the incredible landscapes, environments and characters. Raimi also assures the movie would be in the videogame world and not adapted to our real world. There is already a 40 page treatment and things are moving forward. "I really want to 'World of Warcraft' but it's a long way away." The movie is going through Legendary Pictures studio and will be released by Warner Brothers.

I like Raimi but leave WoW alone.

Could be great. Bruce Campbell should play one character from every main race.

I tried WoW couldn't get into it, way too much to deal with and time consuming. Though I dabble with Oblivion :)

If there is a major roll for Campbell all the better. I just played 2 and 3, not World of, so I don't know all the characters. 2 and 3 had pretty good stories behind them.

World of Warcraft is great. Requires ample amounts of time to progress, but still fun and epic...and since it's so epic I don't trust Raimi with it.

He couldn't do the spider man franchise the justice it deserved and totally butchered his ultimate nemesis, Venom.

Oh, and leave Bruce Campbell out. It's funny for some movies, but I don't think we need him to turn up in every Raimi movie.

I'd rather something on the scale of Lord of the Rings and get like, Peter Jackson to direct. Ok, well not him, he has to finish the Hobbit, but you get me. Someone who can handle an epic film.

hmmmm. I don't know. I am pretty cynical about this guy after the last Spider Man.

Hopefully there won't be any "New Goblins" in the WoW movie.LOL

IGirl: as much as I love your avatar, I have to disagree. There is a lot of strong potential for good story telling within the mythos of the game. it could really turn into something great.

I doubt it will of course. But the potential is there.

@CyborgNinja - No, even if he is Orc #3, Campbell must be in it. People who don't care about him wouldn't notice and everyone who does would be thrilled.

@Juggernaut - One cool thing about Campbell is he seems to actually be a fun and nice guy in real life. I meet him on his book tour, and his book If Chins Could Kill is great. During the signing he would make prank calls for people as they came up. It was hilarious.

It should be the story of Thrall. And Bruce Campbell would be great a different person from each race.

@Spilox

If I recall correctly, Legendary was awarded the movie when they said, they didn't want to make a movie about the World of Warcraft, rather a movie BASED in the world of Warcraft.

So yeah, way too many angles IMO. Its not going to transition well.

@ButtNakedSmurf - People who say crap lke that Usually.
A.) Played it and sucked so they are jaded.
B.) Never played and have have an unfounded hate for a great game.

My guess from your comment is A.). I'm sorry you sucked at it Bro, maybe Runequest is easier and more your speed.

On topic, I'm excited for this movie, even though I know it will be from Alliance perspective, but eh what can you do. As long as Raimi getss the world right. I'll be happy. He sounds like he actually plays so I have some hope.

Although Sammy, you should have lied and told us you had an 80, saying I had a 29 that got deleted and now has a 72 screams you're a newb to the game and just started playing since Blizzcon last year when they announced you as the director.

@Juggernaut - He came to the college I attended on his book tour and gave a speech (hilarious) and signed books. He stayed to like 1:00am signing books and was really nice to all the fans and listened to all their crazy questions and stories. Good guy.

@Skot888- Maybe he has been playing for years. If you don't have the time most gamers do you'd only have a 72 after maybe like 2 years or more depepnding on your schedule. Either way I think it's enough time to get an appreciation for the game. I think it's just as important to play Warcraft 3 as it is to play WoW inorder to understand the big NPCs.
I think a cool easter egg would be for a main character to be walking along and a Goblin or Gnome in the background has a grenade which blows up and when the smoke clears they have a mohawk.
