Street Fighter: Legacy the Live-Action Short Film

Street Fighter: Legacy the Live-Action Short Film

Actor, filmmaker and Street Fighter fan Joey Ansah has created a live-action film that without a doubt UPSTAGES the two big-budget studio pictures based off of the highly successful video game franchise.

Joey Ansah, who showed off his fighting skills against Matt Damon in The Bourne Ultimatum, has had enough with Hollywood's watered down Street Fighter films. Several days ago, the actor contacted Collider.com with this message:

"As an actor, filmmaker and fan, I have been disappointed by the many diluted, unfaithful and outright butchered movie adaptations of fighting video games. It was clear to me, that given the way the movie industry worked, we would never see a super faithful, darker toned and more adult themed (or just plain good!) incarnation of Street Fighter unless a die-hard director or filmmaking team with game canon knowledge stepped up to the plate to helm such a project.

So almost a year ago, I began writing script treatments (with my writing collaborator and great friend Christian Howard, who also plays Ken) and a production design brief and partnered with Streetlight films before proposing my concept and vision to Capcom. I’m pleased to say they gave their blessing and permission for the project to move forward.

My team subsequently attracted a great ensemble to support and execute the project including Owen Trevor (Top gear director) who co-directed the film with me, Jacqueline Quella my Producer, Anthony Waye as my exec producer who has senior production credits on over 90 movies including the last eleven ‘James Bond’ films (Line-producer of the entire Bond movie franchise), and the renowned post production/VFX house, Prime Focus, to name but a few.

We’ve all strived to make a beautiful film that hopefully non fans will really appreciate, but ultimately this is a love letter to the fans and the brilliance of the game. As a result, I’ve gone to every length to be as faithful as possible down to the smallest details of the costume, the choreography, the narrative, the original music themes and, of course, the special moves!

After almost a year of blood, sweat, lots of favours, enthusiasm and love, we are ready to release ‘Street Fighter: Legacy’ to the people who deserve it most…….the fans.

Enjoy the two teaser trailers, and look out for the short film to be online on Thursday along with a series of making of featurettes.

Joey Ansah"

Alright, enough of an introduction. Street Fighter: Legacy debut online today, and I'm sure the creators are eagerly awaiting fan reactions. Here are all of Ansah's Street Fighter: Legacy videos; the teasers, behind the scenes featurettes and the short film itself. Below the videos you'll find a few production stills courtesy of Collider.com.

Do you think this live-action short is good enough to garner a full feature film?

Many thanks to Collider.com for furnishing the videos, images and information.

MPP - I gotta say, I'm very impressed by all of this. Someone needs to hand Ansah a blank check and sound stage for him to make this a two-hour flick!

That was actually pretty good. Beats the crap out of either one of the movies. That is partly because the writers actually are familiar with the source material and partly because the short is actually ABOUT THE MAIN CHARACTERS!!! Imagine that. I would like to see this expanded into a full feature.

Very cool 3 minute fight scene but it hardly makes a movie! Street Fighter movies have sucked so far but this would need quite a bit more to build off to be anything else than a youtube vid.

@OdinsBeard DBZ needs to be CG in my opinion like Astro Boy. I dont think the it lends itself to live action.

Way better than the two movies. I have Kristen Kruek on myspace and wished her a happy birthday. She responded and said thanks. But when I said I liked her as Chun Li but the script was horrible... She didn't reply. LOL!

There was actually another one released this week that I prefered.....called Beginnings End.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K-F4eCDyUU

I thought the actors/acting were better in Legacy but the fight sequences in Beginnings End were pretty damn good and they actually made the hadoukens/shoryukens look not too cheesy! Check it out, it's another very worthy fan-made vid. :)

Oh, and on that note, if anyone here plays Super SF4, add me on Live! gamertag - Runefyst

@ John

Yeah, there's good parts to both I find. Now if these 2 guys got together & were given a budget to work with, that would be a SF movie I could get behind.

It'd be nice to see more than just Ken & Ryu though :P
