In a surprise announcement this week, Nexon and Marvel Games announced the impending closure of their mobile game
MARVEL Battle Lines.
"We are sincerely thankful for all the love you have shown for MARVEL Battle Lines. So, we regret to announce the termination of service on January 9, 2020," the developer
announced on Twitter.
"We'll do our best to give our game the send-off it deserves!"
Launched in October 2018,
MARVEL Battle Lines was Marvel's take on the digital card battle genre. Players could create and compete with a custom deck of 12 character and ability cards inspired by Marvel superheroes and villains. Battles would take place on a 3x4 grid with the goal of strategically placing cards in consecutive order to create battle lines and combinations to damage their opponent.
While the game featured some pretty impressive artwork, it seems it didn't catch on with many players.
"We thought of many different ways we could improve the game and keep our players happy," Nexon wrote.
"In the end, however, we decided that we were simply not in a position to continue delivering the quality content that our players expect."
Microtransactions via the in-game payment service system have already been disabled, but the game will continue running until January 9, 2020. It's unclear what kind of send-off Nexon has planned for
MARVEL Battle Lines.
