Check out this interview with Rocksteady's Adam Vincent, an animator on the soon to be released Batman: Arkham City. In it, he gives us some more information on Robin's gameplay, as well as the similarities and differences between the boy wonder, Batman and Catwoman. Here are some excerpts from the article:
Can you tell us a bit more about Robin?
"Robin's a really great character you know, working out how he's going to move; designing a concept. How different can we make Robin? What do you think will be unique? we really wanted to seperate the fighting styles! And as soon as you get the sound effects in it's amazing; with the staff when you whacking some guys head in, it's fantastic!"
So is it just the staff? Or does he have his own toys?
"He's got these cool shurikens, which are like his batarangs which he can throw at people. He's more explosive based, so you've these proximity mines that you can, you know put on their back and that knocks them over, or you can detonate it when you want!"
In terms of animation, how would you describe his character? Catwoman's really sexy and seductive, Batman's going to break every bone in your body; what's Robin like?
"That's a really interesting idea! Yeah with Batman we've made it so that each one his punches looks like it's going to knock you out anyway, it's much fiercer. Catwoman's really fast, and her moves are really unique. Robin; I don't know how to put it; it's really MMA, you've got him using his staff obviously, and then you mx that up and he's using he's knees and elbows, and fists. He's kinda, I guess he's between Catwoman and Batman it terms of agility, you can really feel it when you play it!"
Rocksteady's community manager Sarah Wellock has also confirmed that a character trailer for Robin will be arriving soon via the relevant retailers. Click the link below for the full interview with Adam Vincent. Batman: Arkham City comes out on PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 18th, 2011.
