Wanted Sequel Is A Go, Writers On Board

The Wrap report that the writing duo from Timur Bekmambetov's first Wanted have been hired to pen a sequel. We also get a very rough idea of the story the sequel will follow..

It seems a sequel to the loose adaptation of Mark Millar's controversial comic series is definitely in the works as the original movie's screenwriters are on board.

From The Wrap..

The studio has hired Michael Brandt and Derek Haas to write "Wanted 2," Haas told TheWrap Tuesday -- and tweeted.

"We just always loved the 'Wanted' world and loved working with Universal and (director) Timur (Bekmambetov) on the first one, so we're excited."

"Wanted 2" is "going to take off after the events of what just happened," Haas said. "Pick up Wesley a few years later and go back in for another round."

No word on whether the original cast or director will return. Hass says that while he would love to work with Bekmambatov again, he is "a busy guy". James McAvoy played Wesley in the first movie which bore almost no relation beyond character names and basic premise to the Mark Millar comic of the same name. Angelina Jolie played the female lead and was rumored to be sought by Universal to return for the sequel despite literally having her head blown off at the end of the first movie.

Personally I found both the movie and the comic to be pretty rubbish but for very different reasons. What do you guys think? Excited for Wanted 2?

I watch movies to be entertained and Wanted did just that. So I don't care if it was loosely based on a comic I've never read. When you give me assassins and lots of action, I don't mind spending 10 bucks to see it. I say bring on the sequal...unless it's a direct to dvd piece of you crap with an unknown pretty boy.

MW- IS there anything you actually like or are you just trolling?

AS long as they don't bring back Angelina Jolie's character it might work. Her character is dead. Let her stay dead.

it was a fun movie. nothing mind blowing, but a lot of fun to watch none the less. love the key board scene. never read the comic.

if they want Angelina back, the only way it could happen is if her scenes were flashbacks. Maybe have Wesley on a mission where he has to find clues left by Ang's character before she died, and flashbacks to what Ang's character was doing.

I had a theory that maybe the first movie was just an origin story for Wesley Gibson and a sequel could be closer to the book. They could add characters from the book and start a whole new series. I thought the first movie was awesome and I never really read the books but I have heard the comparison is bad between the two.

This movie is based on a comic?? I just watched it the other day and I really liked it. Wow, that's a surprise. Anyway, a sequel would need a really good script to succeed, since almost every character from Wanted is dead.

Oh my god yes!!! I loved the movie and comic. [frick] the haters! I am super excited for this but, James McAvoy and Timur Bekmambetov better be back for it, cause although I want a sequel, I want it to be as good or better than the first.

I don't give a git about McAvoy, but if Jolie's onboard I'm jacked. So what if she lost her head in #1? She could reappear in flashback prequels that, perhaps, parallels and enhances the new story.
