Damon Lindelof Announces The Start Of Pre-Production On HBO's WATCHMEN TV Series With An Instagram Pic

It looks like that HBO watchmen TV series we first heard about last year is officially a go, as Damon Lindelof has taken to Instagram to announce that pre-production is now underway. More past the jump...

Though we never had anything in the way of an official announcement regarding this, it seems that Watchmen HBO TV series we first heard about last year has not only been greenlit, but has actually entered into the pre-production phase already.

Lost creator Damon Lindelof was previously rumored to be involved with the small-screen adaptation of Alan Moore's classic tale, and earlier today he confirmed that he was indeed on board by giving us a glimpse into the writers' room. Fans of the graphic novel will no doubt recognize the base of that statue as the retirement trophy that was presented to Hollis Mason, a.k.a Nite Owl I.

We don't have any specific plot details beyond what we already know about the source material - however, last we heard this show will be completely separate to Zack Snyder's (who was originally involved) 2009 feature, which in turn means it'll most likely take quite a few liberties with the original story.

What do you guys make of this? Let us know in the comments section below.

If Damon Lindelof is working on it, it should be good. Lost is a masterpiece.

@JoeMomma29 - Man, the 3rd season left me kind of underwhelmed (not gonna spoil it for others) but the first two seasons were masterfully written and acted.

I'm pretty excited for this. I liked Snyder's Watchmen quite a bit (in fact it is my favorite film of his), but it was limited by the runtime. It'll be cool to see what they can do with less of a time restraint.

@MrDandy - gotta agree with you, I can't stand Synder's DCEU decisions but Watchmen was incredible.

@MrDandy - Have you seen the ultimate cut? It almost have every single page from the comic. 3 1/2 hour runtime! I'm sure with this new series, it will get fleshed out more and, hopefully, a lot of new things added.

@ArkhamClown - I did. I thought it was bloated as a film and it kind of wrecked the pacing. I prefer the normal cut of the film. I think the longer take will work better (at least pacing wise) for a TV series.

@MrDandy - I agree. I like the director's cut the best because of the added scenes. I'm surprised the long runtime doesn't bother me. I actually prefer it over the graphic novel and I KNOW I'm in the minority haha.

Time to see some Watchmen goodness that wasn't in the movie

@Elayem - it will be very interesting how they achieve such a visually complex scenario, although we are in a golden age for fantasy on tv, so if you trust in good literary material, there will be a lot of money to achieve a cinematic texture of the GOT style.
