Mel Gibson As WOLVERINE? Check Out Some Concept Art

The troubled actor was rumored to have been offered the role of Logan back in 1997, but short of that we've never heard too much more about it. Now, what is apparently some official concept art from Miles Teves has been unearthed, which you can see after the jump.

There were several actors that were said to be up for the role of Wolverine before Hugh Jackman brought the iconic Marvel mutant to life in Bryan Singer's X-Men, and one of them was Mel Gibson. How close he actually came to playing the part is unknown, but providing the above concept sketch from artist Miles Teves (Total Recall, RoboCop, The Chronicles of Riddick, Legend) is legit, it may well have been closer than we thought. Do you think Gibson would have made a good Logan?

if this would have been official back then, nobody would complain about it because he looks like Wolverine, but now that we have Jackman is a completely different story.
And because wasn't the crazy bastard that is now.

Mel Gibson hates blacks and Jews, so that this wouldn't have worked out too well for the franchise.

Pretty cool looking. Honestly if they ever recast Wolverine, I think they should go with Emile Hirsch, for a short more comic style Wolverine.
HE is furry and only 5'6

It might have been cool in the 90's. Before everyone found out how much of a racist this guy is.

I always thought Mel Gibson would have been a great Wolverine. He has a ferocity to him that very few actors, if any, have been able to match.

When he gets angry, you can really see it in his eyes and his facial expressions. He has shown that he can do the whole berserker rage thing. Look at the Patriot, Braveheart, Lethal Weapon, etc.

Hugh Jackman doesn't really have that quality. Russell Crowe comes close maybe.

Mel would make a great Victor Creed
