The trailer for The Wolverine make no effort to hid the presence of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). But is it a phantom, a dream or possibly a mental projection? Director James Mangold somewhat clarified her role, stating Jean is a "shadow presence" that "pops up to mock, comfort and advise Logan much as Number 6 tortured Gaius Baltar on 'Battlestar Galactica.'” That should tell you pretty much all you need to know about Grey's current resurrection state (hey, she is The Phoenix after all) but fans of Battlestar Galactica just may have gotten a clue to the role another of the leading ladies in The Wolverine plays.
Moving on to that rumor of a certain cameo:

Patrick Stewart was rumored to have shown up on the set of reshoots for The Wolverine to film an end-credit scene that leads right into Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past.
All Mangold said about a potential end-credit scene was, "I don't want to comment." But then added, "It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what's inside ['The Wolverine']." I used spoiler tags but even so, Mangold kind of gives a pretty obvious hint to what people should expect to see after the credits roll. He pretty much confirms that there is one but it doesn't have anything to do with his film per se. Gee, I wonder what other mutant filled film from 20th Century Fox Mangold could possibly be referring to?
