James Mangold On Jean Grey And How THE WOLVERINE Relates To X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Director James Mangold gets rather geeky in his explanation of Jean Grey's role and psychosocial presence in The Wolverine. The director also addresses a recent rumor that concerns a certain end-credit cameo scene filmed during reshoots.

The trailer for The Wolverine make no effort to hid the presence of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). But is it a phantom, a dream or possibly a mental projection? Director James Mangold somewhat clarified her role, stating Jean is a "shadow presence" that "pops up to mock, comfort and advise Logan much as Number 6 tortured Gaius Baltar on 'Battlestar Galactica.'” That should tell you pretty much all you need to know about Grey's current resurrection state (hey, she is The Phoenix after all) but fans of Battlestar Galactica just may have gotten a clue to the role another of the leading ladies in The Wolverine plays.

Moving on to that rumor of a certain cameo:
SPOILER
[Show]

All Mangold said about a potential end-credit scene was, "I don't want to comment." But then added, "It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what's inside ['The Wolverine']." I used spoiler tags but even so, Mangold kind of gives a pretty obvious hint to what people should expect to see after the credits roll. He pretty much confirms that there is one but it doesn't have anything to do with his film per se. Gee, I wonder what other mutant filled film from 20th Century Fox Mangold could possibly be referring to?

First thing interesting...The role of Jean..

on a side note, is it me or does the Fox handling of a universe setting (i.e. Copying MCU) seem to be non-extistence..we were told this was stand alone, then sequel, now it looks like its a stand alone with a single scene added the end...cheap, like the quicksilver move...

i'm still hoping they pull something like star trek where time has been altered and so maybe cyclops won't grow up to be a weiner and wear f*ckin turtlenecks and button down sweaters around the mansion.

Think of it this way -marvel has Ironman as the main player in their universe.Fox chose Wolvie, not a bad choice if you ask me.

At least Marvel is doing Thor, Cap solo movies, and now Guardians, Antman.

Fox only support Wolverine solo movies.

what about Deadpool? what about Gambit? what about X5?, there are many possibilities with XMen universe

The whole Jean Grey/Logan thing was never developed in these movies, and his reactions to her, therefore don't make any sense.

He barely spent any time with her (in either X1 or X2). She completely rejects him, twice if I remember. Then she's slammed to the bottom of a lake. All of a sudden, he's crying, and heartbroken over someone who was barely in his life at all.

And now, he's so heartbroken over killing her in X3,
that he's living as a bum somewhere?

What a chump...

Geez im so sick of all this wolverine hate. Wolverine is one my favorite superheros of all time, and Hugh Jackman has done an amazing job portraying him in these movies. So ppl really just need to get over it.
