In the February issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, a pile of new details about the interesting sounding video game were revealed, and thanks to gaming website stickskills, we have all the main highlights listed below.

-The tone of the game is said to be "dark, mature, & intense" striving towards an adult feel, but a Mature rating is said to not be likely.

-San Francisco is divided into human & non-human sectors as Professor X is dead.

-The game starts with a peace rally being staged to pay tribute to Professor X, which is when you are prompted to pick one of three characters in the crowd.

-OXM's Activision guide chose Adrian Luca as their character.

-The game presents the player with frozen in time "decision moments", indicating its time for players to make a big choice. The first big choice in the game allows you to pick your power archetype ranging from being able to manipulate matter and your body mass, energy projection, or a third one that was kept a secret.

-The game allows you to decide who is friend or foe in the X-Men universe.

-Cyclops, Quicksilver, Surge, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, & Gambit are confirmed to make an appearance in the title, with plenty more to be announced.

-X-Genes play a rather large role in the game, ranging from boss fights to deciding to give it to an X-Men, or someone else to form another alliance.

-Linking together a good amount of attacks will fill up your "Mutant power" meter, allowing you to pull off even stronger special attacks.

-One of the special attacks described as a part of the "Mutant power" meter was "Force Pillars". The attack was said to produce crowd clearing beams that rise from the ground.

@Intruder: Surge (Noriko "Nori" Ashida) is a fictional character, a mutant in the Marvel Universe, one of the student body in the Xavier Institute, and a member of the former New Mutants squad therein. She maintained her powers post M-Day and is the leader of the New X-Men. She first appeared in New Mutants (vol. 2) #8 (January 2004).

Surge is in it? [frick]ing sweet! I'm growing a bit tired of the same old characters in every game. Plus she makes sense if you're going to be attending the institute.

I know! I love it when smaller characters make it into games like this! No offense to the "A-list" but I don't want to be eating the same meal over and over when the X-verse has a very wide array of awesome characters.

Does Marvel have to rights to make a live-action TV series based off the X-Men?

Awesome. This is starting to sound a lot like Ultimate Alliance though...or X-Men Legends. Still, excited 'cause I loved both those games!

Check out my fanfic...it's a bit different. Read!

Intruder, I did backflips when I saw Surge would be in it. She is a good character. I think you might even like her if you read the stories involving her. She is one of the few in the younger group I hope stays around for years to come. And Darwin isn't a student. He was part of Moira's X-Men that Charles sent to Krakoa to rescue the original 5, where Petra and Sway died, and he and Vulcan were trapped for years. No offense bro, but it doesn't seem like you read much X-Men, or at least not enough to pass judgment on these characters you don't seem to know much about. It's easy to say Surge is a Teenage Asian Electro rip-off if you only have a superficial knowledge of her (besides, wouldn't this view constitute that all telepaths are Xavier ripoffs, etc). Learn about her and you'll find out manipulating Electricity is all they have in common, and the methods and applications are very different and you'd find that Surge already has more control and power than Electro ever had, she just needs a few more years of experience to master it.

I'll buy this game just because it has X-Men in the title, then I'll decide if I wasted my money (just like that [frick]ing MUA2 game, [frick]ing disappointment)

Fartman, lol, I hope not, but seriously bud, the only thing about that game that was better than the first was the graphics and some of the characters they added (ahem, Gambit). The story was bad, the boss' were worse and they completely destroyed the leveling system in favor of one sooo simple that the game already had me bored within a few hours just knowing that customization was so restricted in comparison to the first one (the latter issue was the game killer for me). I liked the first one a lot and the X-Men Legends games as well, MUA2 just did not deliver like its predecessors.

P.S. MUA2 was pretty awesome agreed!

But so is X-MEN LEGENDS etc...

Damn we need a hardcore SPAWN game!

What's the point in an Xmen game when you don't play as an already existing character? I mean, according to this we'll get the choice of three original characters, right?

That's a bit like playing a Fantastic Four or Spider-Man game where you don't play as the F4 or Spider-Man.

@SoulAllFlush

What's the point of Stars Wars Galaxies if you don't play as an existing character?

What's the point of DC Universe Online if you don't play as an existing character?

What's the point of World of Warcraft if you don't play as existing character?

What's the point of Fable if you don't play as an existing character?

It's called a role-playing game and it's a style of gaming that is immensely popular. So you're telling me you'd rather play as an existing X-Man instead of playing as your own X-Man, interacting with and becoming integral in the lives of various mutants such as Cyclops, Wolverine, and Magneto?

iconstatic
iconstatic - 1/2/2011, 12:51 PM
@SoulAllFlush

That comparison is a tad flowed though. Spider-Man is about a singular character, and the Fantastic Four is about the titluar team.

The X-Men is about an entire race of people. Even now, the X-Men are basically a revolving door team on an island with like 100 other mutants, right? And at one point, there were millions of them.

And even without all that, a recurring theme since the 80's has been the team taking on and recruiting new members to train, so the idea of them making a game about a new Mutant fits in quite well with the concept.

This game has the potential to be excellent. I like the thought of being able to join the X-Men as a new character, but I hope that there will be plenty of customisation options and more to do than just walking around talking to various mutants asking repetitive questions like in the Ultimate Alliance games. It could be epic if done properly, but I'll need to see a lot more before deciding on that.

Real nice to be waiting for a great X-Men game only to get one where you can't play as the core X-Men. Whoever greenlit this game should be smacked in the head with a brick!!!

@ASSASSIN666

I guess I don't get it. There have been plenty of games where you could play as the "core" X-Men. Why is it some sort of crime to make ONE where you play as a new character? I actually find that prospect to be immersive and exicting.

lol, some of you are pretty pissed over not being allowed to play a core X-Man. Yea, it would be cooler to play as Gambit, but give the game a shot before you pan it over something so silly.

Idoraptor, well according to that logic there is no point in playing any game unless its playable characters have had 10 years of established material. And guess what! In World of Warcraft and Fable you do not play characters that have already been established. In Fable 3 your the son/daughter of the Great Hero of Fable2, and that's about all the establishment you got, while in WoW, you create the character from nothing, choose the race, gender, class, and professions are all up to the player to choose and nothing about your character is established. Half of your argument here is flawed because of that.
