While we wait for some new cast additions, the sequel to X-Men: First Class titled X-Men: Days of Future Past is still moving forward as planned, despite Matthew Vaughn exiting the director's chair. Bryan Singer, who launched the X-Men franchise to the big screen in 2000, as well as producing the 2011 film, will step in to helm the next chapter. According to The Geek Files, principal photography will commence in April, which gives the studio and everyone else involved plenty of time to deliver a worthy follow-up.

"The next X-Men film is to start filming in April 2013, the Coventry Telegraph has exclusively learned. X-Men: Days of Future Past was initially due to shoot in January but writer/producer Simon Kinberg had recently referred, in more general terms, to production getting under way sometime in the spring."

In other X-Men news, director Bryan Singer has recently joined Twitter (follow him: @BryanSinger) where he posted this:

X-Men: Days of Future Past is based on a classic comic book storyline, which deals "with a dystopian alternative future in which mutants are incarcerated in internment camps." The arc also features the Sentinels, who rule the United States.

I think it's a good idea that Fox push back the filming of XM-DOFP to April. That way the actors have enough time to read scrpit. And it's going to be cool seeing the Giant Sentinels! I'm very excited.

This movie better be...and i repeat...better be faithfull to the storyline, im talking full blown DOFP adaptation, not just a general X-Men story with a hint of DOFP.

I have faith in Singer tho Superman was subpar in my opinion, however he is a great writer and director and the Xmen are his babies and if anybody can pull it off it's him..
Micheal Fassbender saved the last X movie from getting too cheesy , lets hope this movie will not be too geared towards the kiddy crowd !

Bryan Singer should stay away from comic book films. The guy seems to dislike putting action in his films and seems to neuter characters. Keep expecting him to pull the same stunt as before where only a sentinel head is shown in the danger room. Has high hopes for this film but after this announcement they have drastically dropped.

@pro346 Yes, why not. XMFC wasn't perfect but at least, the ending was awesome and the bad guys didn't die all at the same time...

I'm still mad that Vaughn left but at least Bryan Singer's previous X-men movies weren't that bad so Days of Future Past could be still alright...

I hope the 3rd movie is apocalyptic. I hope this movie ends similar to how the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon ended, to lead into the 3rd movie.

I hope there is no time traveling. If there is, I hope only one person can do it, and that it is his mutant power.

To clear things up about X-Men movies continuity ....
People often watch the X-Men films and realise that First Class has MASSIVE continuity issues. The film was a REBOOT of the franchise, NOT A DIRECT PREQUEL, hence why Emma Frost is an adult in the 60s, Charles is paralysed etc.

As for Days of Future Passed, I loved Vaughn's slick direction of First Class; I believe that film was a much better film than either X-Men or X2. So I'm very disappointed that Singer is directing this, but I hope it's great.

This movie has all the potential in the world. If it was a MARVEL ONLY film, I'd be more excited about it than Avengers 2. I hope they get it right, but I have my doubts. The best we can expect is one and a half epic fight scenes. A tearjerker moment in the third or fourth quarter, and enough facepalms from cheesy dialogue and homosexual "nod/wink" moments to overshadow the first two things I mentioned. Any arguments?

@ thewonderer- First Class is okay. Not terrible, but not great- it's borderline good....

@Pro Yeh First Class was better than Avengers. Avengers for me was a bit of a disappointment. Great to see all those characters together in one film but story was weak, felt too small, shit villain no threat. Still liked it coz of what it tried to do in bringing them all together. Phase 2 should be miles better though. First Class was great and although I'd prefer Vaughn to Singer at least there is a solid blueprint for Singer to build on n he won't deviate too much from the original plan for DOFP. Hopefully not anyway
