James McAvoy On Following In The Footsteps Of Patrick Stewart For X-Men: First Class!

On Following In Patrick Stewart's Footsteps:

"I've always kind of said that the point of doing prequels is showing who they were before they became the person we already know. Just to help validate the reason for making this movie, you have to make those characters very, very different."

"So, I'm always nervous because my character is a very different representation of who he becomes. But then the whole look and setting of the film is so removed as well. It's set in the sixties, the casting is very different. So hopefully that will help the fact that the characterizations are very, very different."

On How He Plans On Putting His Mark On X-Men: First Class:

"In the comic books, Professor X often has to put his hands to his temples. And I thought, 'Well, I'm going to do that.' I might be doing Patrick a disservice, but I don't think he did that in the other movies."

X-Men: First Class is set to be released on June 3, later this year!

Seriously? This movie cant figure out if its a prequel or not and people are WONDERING if itll be bad?

The concept of a first class xmen team was absolutely ridiculous the second angel, cyclops, jean grey and iceman werent involved.

I am part of the [frick] fox group, but I will wait until a trailer before I determine if I will watch or not because I do like McAvoy.

It will probably be an ok movie, but a terrible comic book movie.

It is a prequel, if you read the interview. He's talking about the struggles in showing an already established character's beginnings. Its not that easy to do. You have to show who they were, and what shaped them into who they become. This film has a good cast, a director with some hits(adn albeit some misses), and a premise we all enjoy. Nothing about the X-Men Mvoie-verse has screamed "comic book continuity", so everyone should get off their high horse and give it a shot. At least reserve judgement until the trailer.

And, if nothing else, if its terrible, Marvel can try and get the rights back. This is a win-win movie for fans.

Can't wait for the trailer. Not sure if the movie is gonna be good. But I'm curious as f[]ck. The whole "twilight" comment killed a lot of momentum for me.

I'm still looking forward to this movie. In fact, I was watching X3 again the other day, and y'know what? If you take it strictly in the context of the first two movies and divorce it entirely from the idea of following the comics, it's actually pretty good. Maybe better than the first one. It's still got some pretty big flaws, but there's a lot of really good shit in there too. I love that they stick Magneto with the cure - that's a plotline I'd love to see developed, and it was a great way to bring it full circle from what he did to Senator Kelley.

@Teatruder I'll admit, when he's tryin to look sexy he just ends up looking like a nob.
But it is really difficult finding a pic of him raising one brow.
If you want a pic of The Rock raising one brow, there's shit loads of 'em, but McAvoy... only one.(to my knowledge)

I cant think of a single good thing surrounding this movie, characters involved are terrible, hellfire club as villains is terrible, saying its a prequal yet not taking into account age or the clear mathematical effect this movie has on the timeline compared to the previous 3 films?

I had this bowel movement when I woke up and before I flushed I looked and thought "wow, yknow, I think this couldve made a better xmen film".

Tea and Intruder are destroying people on here haha. Too funny. The thing I like the most about you two is that these people will try to come back with something they think is snappy or clever and they don't even come close to being humorous. After one of you wipes the floor with their comment, those people's responses are like, "well... you.. suck! Got you good [frick]er! Damn I'm good." lol
