Michael Fassbender Says He's "Giddy At The Prospect" Of An X-Men: First Class Sequel

Speaking exclusively to Total Film the actor reiterates his desire to return for a follow up to Mathew Vaughn's first X flick, saying he has ideas for Magneto and his purple helmet..

Michael Fassbender was arguably (though I'm not arguing) the best thing about X-Men: First Class. Not that the rest of the movie wasn't great too, but his younger, tougher take on the man who would be Magneto really stood out as the movie's best highlight. Although he had been on Hollywood's radar before, that role really seems to have made Fasssbender one of the most in demand actors working today. He has two very different but equally great looking movies in the pipeline; Shame and Haywire. While speaking to Total Film about these Fassbender also mentioned that sequel we all hope he eventually makes..

“If they make enough money usually they make a sequel. They usually give you the first one and then two options. I’ve got some interesting ideas for Magneto, as does James [McAvoy] for Professor X.

“I know we really enjoyed working with each other and it would be great if we could get that original team back. James and I were getting sort of giddy with the prospect of the next one.

“I want to see how Professor X becomes Professor X because he’s starting his journey at the end of this film but I’ve made my transition into Magneto.”

“I’ve got the hat and I’m ready for action. I’ve got the purple helmet…”

Thanks Tea! This dude should nail it again. Give me the Giant Sized X-Men, throw a mohawk on Storm, make Storm a REAL African native, throw in Psylocke (why care about the continuity now???) name it the Uncanny X-Men, throw in some Sentinels and I may get excited about this. Maybe...

@ tripttwe

to introduce the likes of storm the movie would have to jump forwards a couple of decades and I'd rather the movie remained in the 60's

Wasn't very impressed with First Class as an X-Men film. I am tired of Magneto and wish they would introduce another main villain. McAvoy irritates me and if I don't have to see another eyebrow raise from him I will be happy. And what's with all the actors wanting to have a say in how a movie goes now? Let the writers and directors write and direct.

I take one look @ Fassbender and see a young Christopher Plummer. Somebody needs to call JJ Abrams and tewll him to write a young General Chang into the next ST movie, and cast the hell out of Michael Fassbender.

They could go the route of Mastermind being the villain but as a young student at Xavier's school. That way it can be a conflict of how to stop an out of control dangerous child without taking his life. Apocalypse is too soon. That can only work for future X films. Sentinels should've been the Last Stand not Phoenix.

HAYWIRE is getting some good early buzz, and more importantly, so is GINA CARANO, who is fancast as WONDER WOMAN constantly. I'm excited to see how she is in that film...

@RANGER

While i thought FASSBENDER was awesome in the film, like you, i'm sick of MAGNETO too. I am a bit concerned about MCAVOY & FASSBENDER telling anyone who will listen that they want input into their characters....NO INPUT NEEDED, the characters have been written for decades, its all there in the source material!

This is getting annoying. The movie was better than expected and now these dudes are going overboard. Fassbender should sit down and shet up. Magneto shouldn't even be in the next film- or at least not as the main villain. He's itching for a paycheck over wanting the best direction for the series which is still in a delicate position. FOX would want to think this through before merging actors ideas into a pile of shit script.

Really, FC2 needs to focus on the first real fight between the X-Men and Magneto. A third, however, could take some notes from X2, perhaps have an uneasy truce against someone worse

Fassbender SHOULD be back in the sequel, whoever says Magneto shouldn't be in the sequel; should, and I quote:
"shet up"
EVERY actor, and director are itching for the next paycheck, including Bale, or Nolan or Wheddon, unless, you work for free...

@ ziggggy

yeah i heard that vaughn only wants to add one new character.

so it looks like we're gonna get the same bunch of unintresting mutants from the first film, characters that i couldn't give a shit if they lived or died.

one day i will get to see an x-men movie that i actually enjoy.

Lol A little butthurt indirect commenting up there. Anyway, the Magneto show has run its course. It limits xmen on a whole rehashing the same struggle. Magneto
should have a back seat until a later installment. More impact through absents. But thats just me. But Im sure theres an audience prepared to enjoy another
trilogy of Magneto.

One [frick]ing question... Where the [frick] is Angel. Does fox understand his importance and how [frick]ing bad ass he is? Magneto, magneto, magneto.. Wolverine, wolverine, wolverine. There are many other fantastic x-men characters that need the spotlight.

How could Magneto not be a victim of his emotions? How can anyone think properly while suffering from "Purple Helmet" syndrome?!? That's why Xavier went bald. He as suffering from purple helmet envy.

"I know some lesser fans are sick of magneto, but do you know what the guy can do ? they've barley scratch his surface."-Zigggggy

Lesser fans? lol Anwyay; It doesn't matter what Magneto COULD do if you're never going to see it. This is a prequel, he shouldn't be doing anything near moving the golden gate bridge at this point. But then again, FOX is doing the movies unrelated to themselves (George Lucas style) so; I guess I could see him juggling planets in the past, then not being able to take over the world in the future. Hell, they can't even decide on when Charles stopped walking.

Dear Fox. New Mutant. Thanks.

Watched FC last night. Entertaining in spite of plot holes and completely ditching the continuity of the current trilogy of films. I notice that because it was better than expected, it moved on into overrated territory. The next film should be easily better- By a land slide actually. They have a good start and lots of room for improvement. The films should get better as they go.

Should.

@Ranger14 - your comment is full of plot holes. I'll try to fill them in.
tired of Magneto? I don't know what to patch that with. Perhaps you're wishing for a Sabastian "the God-like Nazi" Shaw type villain this time next time around instead of just villain sidekicks like Mystique? wait... What's with all the (CBM commenters) wanting to have a say in how a movie goes now? Let the writers and directors write and direct.
