Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominated, Kevin Bacon recently signed on to star in Mathew Vaughn's
X-Men: First Class, prequel to the "X-Men" trilogy. And Bacon's role is confirmed to be the villain of the mutant-packed flick, but the role itself is being kept under wraps.
Speculation for Bacon's role in the film included both "Mister Sinister" and Egyptian crime lord "Amahl Farouk," but according
Forces Of Geek:
One of our FOG! Agents from across the pond has revealed that Kevin Bacon's role in the upcoming 'X-Men: First Class' is that of Sebastian Shaw, leader of the Hellfire Club. And Shaw will figure heavily in the film's plot.
The
First Class story is set during the early days of the X-Men franchise, focusing on Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) as young men, when discovering their powers for the first time. And just by looking at the character "Sebastian Shaw"(right), his British appearance was from earlier period in the comics. But the character can easily be updated for the film, with Kevin Bacon in mind.
Shaw was a mutant who possesses the ability to absorb kinetic energy and transform it into raw strength. He is the leader of the New York branch of the Hellfire Club, which has an exclusive secret society bent on world domination, although to the public, he is a legitimate businessman and ordinary human.
On credibility, you can obviously take it with a grain of salt, being that
Forces Of Geek listed Rosamund Pike as Emma Frost. And that has been debunked with Alice Eve confirmed to portray the character. Also on the
First Class roster; Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), Lucas Till (Havok), and Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique,)
And production begins in London, in August, striking theaters July 3, 2011.
