Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood, Battleship) is now frontrunner in the race to fill the iconic role of 'Tarzan' in David Yates' re-imagining of the iconic character, while Samuel L. Jackson (Marvel's The Avengers, Django Unchained) is also being eyed for a pivotal role. Read on for details!
Variety reports that Alexander Skarsgard is now frontrunner for the starring role in David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) and Warner Bros.' live-action take on "Tarzan". The actor (who is often suggested for superhero roles by comic book fans due to his height and build) is said to be the director's top choice to play the title character, and while the studio has yet to greenlight any casting decisions for the film, it is thought that he will soon be offered the role. Filming is set to begin next summer, while the site has the following logline for the film. "John Clayton III [is] known around the world as the famous "ape man" Tarzan. Years after he's re-assimilated into society, he's asked by Queen Victoria to investigate the goings-on in the Congo. Tarzan teams with an ex-mercenary named George Washington Williams to save the Congo from a fierce warlord who controls a massive diamond mine." Apparently, Samuel L. Jackson is being sought after to play Williams, although that too is in the very early stages at this point.
