The director and star of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, which hits theaters today, Edgar Wright & Michael Cera speaks lightly with Capone of AICN on the potential Marvel film currently on it's 2nd draft, Ant-Man. They mainly discuss the astonishing Avenger's absence from Marvel's forthcoming Avengers film.

Capone: There was a part of me that thought that you might have secretly cast your Ant-Man already and that would have been part of the AVENGERS lineup, because I can’t imagine an AVENGERS without Henry Pym. He’s always been there.

Cera: Ant-Man? He’s part of THE AVENGERS?

Edgar Wright: Yeah.

Cera: Oh, I didn’t know that.

Capone: He was always…

Edgar Wright: He was in the original… Well the original issue of THE AVENGERS is like sort of, by Stan Lee’s own admission, was just like “How can we get all of the heroes into one comic?” They team up to capture the Hulk in the very first issue.

Cera: Wow.

Edgar Wright: But the thing is that the script that I had written for Marvel, if we end up doing it, is actually wouldn’t work with that timeline the way that I’ve written it. So I actually had a talk with [Marvel Studios] Kevin Feige a couple of months ago--I think before Joss [Whedon] got involved--about “Is Ant Man going to be a part of THE AVENGERS?” and we kind of both agreed that maybe he shouldn’t on this first one, because of the way that my origin script works. And I think also because they are going for more like the Ultimates kind of version of The Avengers, but I hope I get to do the script that we did for Ant-Man, because it’s pretty…

Cera: Is it funny?

Edgar Wright: Yeah. It’s a different kind of origin film. I kind of figured you had seen every different variation of mad scientist creating a formula and stuff, so this is something a bit different.

Capone: Okay, well looking forward to it.

ANT-MAN better be in THE AVENGERS, even if its just a damn CAMEO, and the WASP too for that matter!

Not watching this if he ain't, HANK's a founder, don't lame it down HOLLYWOOD!

HANk should only CAMEO in this movie, like gets his ANT-MAN costume stolen in the AVENGERS HQ or something and this movie mainly be the new ANT-MAN!

Hank Pym was there for the beginning of both versions of the Avengers.

LEEE: I'm a 30 year fan, I'm not about to boycot this movie, for any reason. If people say its' terrible, I will still see it just to see my favorite characters on screen, then I will bitch and moan.

have faith in marvel studios,they've pretty much delivered with the three movies we've seen so far.

we've got two f*cking years before we see the avengers.

marvel will have a few more surprise annoucements yet,before we see the finished product.

I guess I really need to read the original Avengers comics again, because I really don't understand why him being in this is such a big deal. I know he's in The original Avengers and all, but he is kind of useless in an action movie of this scale. Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, etc. will be beating the shit out of hardcore villains, while Hank sort of distracts them with his ant army.

i'd rather see giant-man than ant-man,most of us want to see ultron in the second film.

you need hank pym to build ultron,you need ultron to build the vision.

i love to see ultron,vision & wonderman in avengers 2.

I'd love to see Wright's version of Ant-Man but I'd rather that they remove him from the project if it were to mean that Marvel would then be ok with including Hank and Jan in The Avengers. As founding members, they should be part of the team and could easily be introduced in a few minutes just as they were in The Ultimates. Just Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow is pretty boring when you compare it to how visually exciting it would be to see Giant Man fighting the Hulk!!!

jjmeylar@ lolz man. i think wright is cool and seems to care about the film. let's hope that after his solo film he will be in avengers 2. they should at least introduce the pyms as scientists or something and make them superheroes in the ant man film. kinda like a spin off. and then incorporate them in the roster in 2

Wright said last year somewhere that his film would feature Hank Pym as the 60's-era Ant-Man, and Scott Lang as his modern successor. Hopefully Marvel can/will adjust this as a 75 year-old Pym would look pretty silly next to Thor...and Lang is just lame.

This is just absolutely re-gawdam-diculous. We can't have Henry Pym, a founding member of the Avengers (and is also an original member of the filth-infested ultimates) because of some stupid ANT MAN movie? Hate to break it to them, but Ant Man is NOT a character that non-comic audiences are going to care at all about seeing in a solo adventure UNLESS you're doing the "irredeemable" version, which is NOT Henry Pym. Have Pym as Giant Man, do the Irredeemable Ant Man, which would be FAR more interesting AND a lot funnier, now everybody is happy. How hard is that?

Look guys, much as it hurts to hear Ant-Man & the Pyms (probably) won't be in the Avengers, us crying about it won't change a damn thing, so either check out the film or don't. It's pretty much that simple. If Marvel really cared about what the fans said & thought, we wouldn't be getting a new Bruce Banner. But it is what it is, & I'll wait to see how it all turns out before b!tching too much. As it is, hopefully, it means that the movie won't be too crammed with new characters to tell the story right. After all, if Marvel (Feige) told Wheedon that he couldn't use the Pyms, it might be the only real reason he wrote Hawkeye & Black Widow into the script; to make up for it. And either way, we should get the Pyms in part 2, so there you go--

I still find it funny that people don't think the movie can be awesome without Hank and Janet in it. Sure, I would like to see them in it, but to say the movie isn't worth watching with Thor, Captain America, Ironman, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow in it is just crazy talk, as far as I am concerned. It's interesting to note that Stan Lee mentioned he was just trying to get a bunch of heroes put in the comic. Perhaps Stan in hindsight thought it was overkill? That may be fine for a comic, but doesn't necessarily translate to film as well. I'm okay with however it ends up cast-wise and there's no way I am not watching the Avengers!

This is some major BS! the avengers has already gotten off to the worst start ever and it sucks because you would of like to see them get it wright the first time. its gonna suck if captain america and thor actually turn out to be good movies because just the whole backstory of everything is totall shit! they need to reboot everything!!! ugh i hate to say it but youll see when its all done. also Shannyn Sossamon would be a great wasp and ant man should be michael cera haha jk but it should be nathan fillion he just needs to get in shape and look younger lol. also joss whedon is the wrong man for the job, he blows!!! edgar wright would of done a better job. they should reboot everything and keep the captain america and thor movies on track and change the scripts to fit a new avengers movie, and edgar should do the orgin story of henry hank pym (antman) and we start there and we keep the first iron man but [frick] the 2nd one lol. ALSO EDWARD NORTON IS THE ONLY HULK IN MY MIND!!! he was the only good thing about this whole avengers ordeal. but fuk it nothing we can do nopw but watch yet another crappy marvel movie!

So Hank and Janet are definetly not going to be in the Avengers? Whatever, I dont really care, as long as they get a well acted and well written standalone movie and then get starring roles in the inevitable Avengers 2, Im happy
