Despite some misleading and inaccurate reports that Tom Hiddleston told the audience at Kapow! Comic Con in London that he wouldn't be in
The Avengers (I was there, he didn't - read CBM's full report of the Q&A
HERE) it's believed by most that we'll see Loki come to blows with the superhero team. However, equally rumored are the alien baddies, the Kree and Skrulls.
Now, our friends over at
Spinoff Online have a theory which they believe is yet another indication that we'll see some sort of adaptation of the classic Kree-Skrull War. Here's a brief excerpt of what they had to say. You can read more by following the link below.
And now Upper Deck has announced The Avengers: Kree-Skrull War, a 190-card set that can be assembled to tell five original comic stories centering on the classic storyline from The Avengers #89-97. As ICv2.com notes, the July set will mark the first time Marvel comics stories have been told using trading cards.
It’s not indisputable evidence, obviously, but why else would Marvel and Upper Deck release a card set based on a four-decades-old storyline if it didn’t tie into something new and marketable?
I'm not sure about you guys, but I think they might just have a point! While the Skrulls have been spotted in the Marvel Universe recently with event, "Secret Invasion", many newer fans are more than likely clueless when it comes to either alien race. (especially as the storyline took place back in the early 1970s) This could be a great starting off point for Marvel to bring the characters back into the minds of past, present and future comic book readers in preparation for
The Avengers in 2012.
