More Details On Hawkeye's Costume In The Avengers; Hulk's Hero-Role Affirmed!

While the first details emerged earlier today, SHH has posted their take on Walt Disney Pictures' presentation at Las Vegas' CinemaCon, for Marvel & Joss Whedon's crossover extravaganza The Avengers. With the highlight being the reveal of concept art of actor Jeremy Renner in costume as the archer Hawkeye, a few more details have unveiled.

Basically, Hawkeye's costume is going to be very similar to the Ultimates version of the character. In the concept art, we see Renner wearing similar dark glasses and a leather outfit with a matching over-the-shoulder leather quill for his arrows, only the movie version of Hawkeye has the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo emblazoned on it to show his government allegiances. His precision bow is much like the one used by archers who do it for sports and hunting, which again, is also much like the Ultimates Hawkeye

In addition, the presentation also included a sizzle reel, and interviews with The Avengers cast members, notably Mark Ruffalo. The "Bruce Banner" actor apparently affirmed that the incredible Hulk will definitely be more on the hero side, rather than the villain whose the team's first take-down, like in the comics.

Anyhow, The Avengers assemble on the big-screen May 4, 2012 in 3D!

*smacks DCMF* You deleted my comment before I could update it!

I had a whole long post written out in the edit box about the Ultimate costume, and how I didn't want to see them use the "Grifter" mask from the Maduriera run, then lost it all when I hit "update".

Lame. Ultimates Universe is gay as [frick]. Why does the Hulk have to be green? Think about it that's not "realistic"? Cap throwing a shield? Honestly like it would really ever come back to him. A government agent using a bow and arrow? No, wouldn't happen. If you are saying the purple costume wouldn't translate well i could go on and on and on and on and on about shit that doesn't make any [frick]ing sense about comic book movies but you guys didn't complain.

JoshJones - 3/29/2011, 10:37 PM
I hope instead of purple, he wears a neon orange unitard with a bright pink cape.

Screw all you [foo foo]y perfectionists. Do you really think they'd have a black-ops agent wearing a purple suit with a masquerade ball mask and a loin cloth in the MCU? Was Hulk wearing purple pants? Is Cap wearing scaly body armor over tights, and little wings sticking off the sides of his head? Are you really that dense, or just looking for a reason to whine?

Visually, the MCU has been taking a lot of cues from the Ultimate universe. Hawkeye's wardrobe should hardly be a surprise.

"A government agent using a bow and arrow? No, wouldn't happen."

Why wouldn't it happen? We are talking about comic books here. Like a guy turning into a green hulking "superhero" is going to happen? lol Did people have an issue with Rambo using a bow and arrow in those films? Bow and arrows are a silent killer. Hawkeye is known for his use of a bow and arrow. Why would he use anything else?
KevinBacon01
KevinBacon01 - 3/29/2011, 10:49 PM
Your right a silencer is a lot less practical. Why the [frick] did James Bond use one? I mean a bow and arrow is so much easier to conceal and its way more portable and easier to kill people with. Most of you guys love getting on your knees and sucking up whatever cum dribbles out of Marvel's dick. I guess im not that easy.

@Oscuro Where you even alive when the first one came out? Your backing up your opinion with Rambo, the most over the top unrealistic action movies ever made. lol I am American, i know Rambo not like most of you British and European [frick]s who had Wallace and Gromit and Doctor Who. lol

elephant@ It's a flippin' comic book character. It doesn't have to be flippin' realistic. It should follow the source and Hawkeye's signature weapon is a bow and arrow. It shouldn't be too difficult for someone to wrap their mind around that.

KevinBacon01
KevinBacon01 - 3/29/2011, 11:01 PM
@Ranger Oh whats that? "It should follow the source"? But not when it comes to his costume right? Oh ok just making sure.

@Elguason Your right, so how unrealistic is it to have a purple costume?

JoshJones
JoshJones - 3/29/2011, 11:02 PM
I'm just as shocked. I don't know how to react.@WEAPON420
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 3/29/2011, 11:10 PM
elephant@ Yeah the color of his costume is such a major deal, especially when Hawkeye has worn red and black in some source material. Should we have a purple Hawkeye using guns or a black and red Hawkeye using a bow and arrow? Just an FYI... special forces still use bow and arrows, so it must not be that unrealistic to use in certain situations.
luckylu
luckylu - 3/29/2011, 11:17 PM
huuuuuuge bummer. ultimate hawkeye is incredibly boring. they should have stuck with 616 and made him work in an underground carnival. the clint barton i know loves his purple outfit.
Kage712
Kage712 - 3/29/2011, 11:18 PM
@Elephant If the movie was realistic then there would be no hulk, no cap, no hawkeye, no iron man, and no thor. It wouldn't be the Avengers it would be a completly other movie. If you want realistic go watch a documentary on WWII. I'm pretty sure the majority of us here want a unrealistic, over the top, badass movie, and thats what we're going to get :) Because in reality there would be no scarlett johansson in a leather cat suit kicking butt :(
WellDrawn
WellDrawn - 3/29/2011, 11:20 PM
@ELgUaSon - I'm pretty sure Batman has a better reason 4 wearing black than purple.

@Everyone - The ONLY reason hawkeye uses a bow is because Green Arrow used a bow....come to think of it that's the only reason he EXISTS.

So if we're gonna have a discussion about why a character dresses weird and uses a bow and arrow, we might as well talk about who the ORIGINAL archer is ...

ROBIN HOOD - that's why Green Arrow exists - makes sense right? Now why does Hawkeye exist? - Because marvel ripped off DC, DC ripped off an Errol Flynn movie - lets not make more of this than it really is.

Robin Hood NEEDED to use a bow and arrow because that's ALL HE HAD. DC didn't have a way to justify it and neither does Marvel... hopefully Whedon and Branah have a better reason than just: "It's silent"

EXCELSIOR!!!

I knew from the beginning they were gonna go the Ultimates route as far as Hawkeye's design. Even though it wouldve been a tiny bit more cooler to see him in the 616 outfit, but its cool regardless. I do think his House of M outfit wouldve been more easier to translate to film

@elephant yeah, us Brits don't have a clue about your fancy American action movies, its not like movies have worldwide releases or anything... and stop contradicting yourself, first you as good as complain about them changing the costume, then you complain about the color of the costume you so badly want to see on screen (and an article below this on main says the costume is black with hints of red anyway), the original costume works in the comics but a government agent wearing a bright purple Wolverine mask rip off and a matching loin cloth would look shit on film... and as for the realism of a bow and arrow, agents of an organization like SHIELD would most likely have training in using a variety of weapons in a variety of situations, and Hawkeye's weapon of choice is the bow and arrow, although I'd like to see him with maybe more projectile weapons as well, like guns, throwing knives and of course trick arrows.

I know people are reading this as ultimate version but I am not entirely sure they will completely go that route. I am hoping they cherry pick bits to make their own Marvel Studios version.

And as for him using a bow being unrealistic or plain stupid I am sure whatever weapon he uses it will be a piece of high-tech from Stark industries. It's going to be near future, science-fiction piece of kit that can do pretty much anything.
