First Picture Of Toby Jones As Arnim Zola In Captain America Revealed!

There's been some speculation regarding whether we'd see the character in his human or robotic form in the movie, but it looks like we'll definitely see Zola as a human at the start. (before Schmidt's transformation into the Red Skull) Unfortunately, there was no way to make it any bigger, but here's our first look at the villainous Arnim Zola courtesy of Entertainment Weekly!

In the comic books, Arnim Zola presented his first invention, the creation of device that would transfer someone’s essence to a cloned body, to Adolf Hitler, who agreed to become his patron. This device and partnership allowed Hitler to survive World War II as the Hate-Monger. Zola also used it on himself, not only allowing him to survive into modern times but to also replace his normally frail body with a stronger, android one. Zola also found a patron in the Red Skull, but otherwise he kept his existence a secret, performing experiments in a hidden fortress in the jungles of Central America.

Captain America: The First Avenger is set to be released on July 22, 2011!

I really can't wait for this flick but I've got a feeling it'll tank and x-men first class will be the sleeper hit of the year.

KidZombie: Putting together bits and pieces of things I've read from everyone involved, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't even hear the word Nazi used in the movie. It's looking like they have replaced Nazi completely with HYDRA.

HAWKS: Thanks bud! :) Unfortunately, I dont think that this magazine is even sold in the UK! I do however have some high quality scans that I can email over to you if you like? There are one or two interesting bits of info but not really any more pictures/info than what's already been reported on CBM!

You make a good point about the Nazis as well. While I dont think they'll completely omit them from the movie, I doubt we'll see more than the odd one or two scenes featuring them or Hitler. I think it would be silly not to mention them at all though unless they basically replace them in the Marvel movie Universe with HYDRA as you say above.

@hawksblueyes

Not so sure of that. I think it's safe to say that they are not going to RE-WRITE history with this one. I'm betting that HYDRA is going to be an off-shoot of the 3rd Reich, probably the anti-shield. I don't think we have to worry about a nazi-less Captain America movie.

arnim zola i hope he does change to how he looks in the comics.

that'll be awesome.

@ dukeacureds2010

i know what you mean,i hope it doesn't happen.

the people that will go to see x-men first class will be one of two types of people.

1.the genral public that know nothing of the x-men comic history & will just pay to see whatever crap fox churns out.

2.comic fans that are easily pleased.

i for one won't be paying to see it,i watch some knock off dvd.

Josh & Superzero: I don't know if I would say they are trying to rewrite history with it. I do however, remember hearing Johnston say that this film will be centered in Marvels WW2 history which involved HYDRA, not Nazi's. I don't remember the exact quote but the way he said it seemed to indicate that he was trying to quietly step away from the word Nazi altogether.

I also have no idea why he and Marvel would want to do that but thats what it sounded like to me. I'll see if I can dig up the quote. Captain America IS part of Marvel and he has faught Nazi's since... forever. ;)

ScarletSpidey
ScarletSpidey - 10/29/2010, 11:08 AM
@Stumblin - It seems like it. Hugo talked about the prosthetic pieces at SDCC, I believe.
FrankGarret
FrankGarret - 10/29/2010, 11:09 AM
Johnston said Hydra would be a branch of the German military and that Red Skull would be a former SS commander.

I know the new avengers tv show did replace the third reich with Hydra, but
The reason they're even using Hydra is because they want to set them up for the Avengers to fight. Besides, Iron Man already establishes Howard Stark as a "Nazi Killer".

Besides, if you listen to the comic con audio, you can hear Skull refer to "the fuhrer".
Stumblin
Stumblin - 10/29/2010, 11:11 AM
Word! I guess he tries to duplicate the super soldier serum and it ends up terribly wrong?

I'm glad that they're doing prosthetic pieces though, with a touch of CGI could look amazing.
FrankGarret
FrankGarret - 10/29/2010, 11:12 AM
There's really no reason for them to swam Hydra for Nazis. The cartoon might have done so due to the demographic it is aimed at, but you can have PG-13 movies with Nazis. Indy, Hellboy, The Rocketeer to name a few.

Nice find, Josh! IS Schmidt going to "transform?" In the books he just wore a mask- he was always depicted as a regular guy underneath; he didn't become "scarred" until he inhabited a cloned Steve Rogers body in the late 80's. Has anyone heard which way they're going with it?

I thought I heard them mention something about him having some sort of accident in the film, so I'm going with that.

I'm not particularly sensitive about them not having Nazis in this. However, what does concern me is the fact that IF they ever got back the rights to the X-Men (and that's a big if), how would they explain Magneto's childhood? That's arguably the biggest contribution to his status as the greatest villain of all time.

I suppose they could set up HYDRA concentration camps. That would certainly require some getting used to...
