While they gracefully gave our first look at Marvel's much-anticipated Captain America: The First Avenger, via images, Entertainment Weekly dropped a few additional details to the Joe Johnston-directed WW2 adventure. And thanks to Slash Film, you can check out those details below.

"We all know the story of Captain America – a scrawny solider named Steve Rodgers undergoes an experiment and becomes a superman. Since Evans got all bulked up for the role, in the scenes where he is scrawny, Johnston will use “clever camera angles, costume trickery and special effects that will digitally reduce Evans’ body or even put his face on a skinny actor”"

"The main plot features “Captain America as the leader of a team of elite soldiers from various countries , known in the comic books as the Howling Commandos.” And that mission will certainly deal with the Red Skull (Weaving), Hitler’s head of weaponry and the Tesseract, aka, the Cosmic Cube."

"Since Captain America: The First Avenger is the last Marvel film before Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, it has to set up that film. But it’s set several decades in the past. So, the film will begin and end with the classic frozen in ice storyline. Prologue and epilogue style."

"The classic comic book costume with the wings on the head and stuff WILL appear in the movie. Evans wears it during one scene where he’s used as a tool for propaganda. He hates it though and afterwards goes to Howard Stark of Stark Industries to help him build the new, more advanced suit that’s in most of the film."

With confirmation of Cap leading the Howling Commandos & the "classic frozen" bookends, we can only assume they'll also make up most of Samuel l. Jackson's screen time, donning the patch as Nick Fury. The only thing we don't know is if Fury would be in the 40s era. I find it hard to believe they'll include Jackson during that time, due to the fact that theres several other characters with needed dialogue. I can see them using Tommy Lee Jones' "Chester Philips" role as the story teller; maybe. What do you think?

Anyhow, Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters July 22, next year!

@LEEE- Um why? Why would Ruffalo be in the Hulk tv series? Chances are it's not gonna be canon with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

@Cyclops- Yes he is, he said before that he's singed on to do sequels to TIH and I believe two Avengers sequels.

it would seem that it would be Tony's Grandfather at Stark Industries at that time with a little Howard running around in the background, wouldn't it

Rorschachfan09 - 10/31/2010, 3:45 PM
@ThePhantom - Nope, Its Tonys dad, cast your mind back to Iron Man 1...Tony states to the blonde chick "my father helped defeat the Nazis, he worked on the manhattan project"....So it is indeed Howard stark.

Mark Ruffalo won't do a TV series and why should he? He is a well established movie actor.... TV would be a demotion for him.

Please tell me that the Howling Comandos are NOT going to be a werewolf, half vampire, and a Frankenstein clone like in the comics.

Altho we can probably guess Dun Dum Dugan is going to be in the movie now.

I'm hoping to see Namor and Union Jack in the Howling Commandos and maybe even someone from Alpha Flight ((unless they're an X-Men property)

Did anyone else notice the cosmic cube in "Iron Man 2" in the book that Tony looks through? Just an off topic thought.

I don't know much about pre avengers Marvel comics but a guy I work with just brought in a comic called: Sgt Fury and The Howling Commandos? Was it originally Fury in command of instead of Captain, did Cap eventually take command

"The only thing we don't know is how Fury would know much about the 40s. I find it hard to believe they'll have Samuel l. Jackson around during those time."

I don't get why people have a challenge with this. Fury WAS around in the 40's. The Infinity Serum slowed down his aging process. That's why he is still around in the present day. It's part of the source material history in both the Ultimate and regular Marvel Universe.

GarageNinja@ "Dum Dum" Dugan was the original leader of the Howling Commandos and was replaced by Clay Quartermaine by order of Colonel Nick Fury. Nick Fury was a superior of both of the leaders of the Howling Commandos.

Fury is injected with a serum that suspends his aging. So he could look the same in the 40s

Well that's cool I had no idea they were gonna put him in it. I hope it's Bucky, Britain and Dum Dum for the team and not the real Howling Commandos,.

That sounds perfect! And a lot like what I suggested in my article on the Captain America movie a while back.

The only thing that would make this more epic is a cameo of Logan/Wolverine & Cap storming the beaches on D-Day!!

the most epic thing that could happen is introduce him to the rest of the avengers in the after-credits-scene. imagine the film ending with the holy trinity of the avengers. the big three

Thanks for the info dude.

@Denn1s

Hell yeah, I think I'd have a complete freak out if we saw all three of them assembled in the end, maybe we won't even have to wait for an after credit scene.

Namor and Union Jack were never in the
Howling Commandos, that was THE INVADERS!
THE HOWLERS ain't the INVADERS!

Sgt. Fury ran THE HOWLERS not THE INVADERS!
If they get that mixed up Ima gonna be angry...
and they don't wanna see me when I get angry!
LOL

Johnston said the INVADERS were gonna be
prominent in the 2nd half of the movie!
I sure hope Johnston wasn't getting THE
HOWLERS & THE INVADERS mixed up!

There were no Super-guys in the Howlers, just
plain ol' soldiers!

I knew! I knew thats what they're gonna do! Just plain awesome. Maybe after the credits we see Nick Fury in a S.H.I.E.L.D sub-marine and then as they get closer to an ice thingy we see a figure then closer and closer then we see Captain America then Nick Fury says "At last I found you"

DDD@ The Howling Commandos were not plain old soldiers. They were supernatural beings that were recruited to strike fear in the enemy because they were monsters and paranormals. They either served or were threatened to be locked up in confinement. There was nothing plain about them. ;-)

Anyone else hoping that Zola will get his robotic body? I mean the C.A. game had concept of him with it (not to mention lady hydra)Best case senario by the end of the film zola and red skull get put on ice (not literally) until modern times and hoping make an appearence in the avengers. Heres hoping! Also cant wait for a trailer and how hugo will look as the Red Skull. HAIL H.Y.D.R.A! lol

contrast - 10/31/2010, 7:49 PM
@Ranger14-- um, no. The original Howling Commandos were regular humans... they served in WWII under Nick Fury. The group you're thinking of shares the name, but won't be anywhere near this movie...because it takes place during World War II
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 10/31/2010, 8:16 PM
My bad as to not pointing out the different Howling Commando groups.. long day today and didn't differentiate and think that out clearly, although the original Howling Commandos experienced elongated life due to being exposed to Nick Fury's blood on a regular basis during battle and they were considered as not your average soldier. Sorry about that DDD.

He shouldn't hate the classic suit, he should just get to a point where the Stark Designed suit has more advanced capabilities and he switches kinda like Batman in TDK. Showing it and then disrespecting it by having Cap hate it is almost worse than not having it.

It's more of an opinion based layout of the film. Captain America doesn't HATE anything, well, except injustice and evil I suppose lol.
