RUMOR: Ryan Phillippe Joins the Captain America Short Long List

That's right, yet another name is being linked to the role. This one comes with a higher price tag, though.

When will it end?!?

Let's get straight to the point, HitFlix just released the following statement:

"Sources have confirmed to HitFix that Ryan Phillippe is the latest Hollywood leading man to be considered for the pivotal role in the Marvel Studios movie universe."

Ryan's last film was the critically panned military film Stop Loss, in which he portrays a soldier-turned-conscientious objector during the Iraq conflict.

If this is true, it would bring the current Captain America casting list total to five contenders; Ryan, Mike Vogel, Garret Hedlund, Wilson Bethel and Chris Evans. Of those five only Vogel was on the original Cap short-list released by Deadline.com. One thing is pretty certain, though; the actors currently being associated with the role are becoming more and more well known which means a bigger price tag for the studio.

Supposedly he's a pretty good actor, and I haven't actually seen him act, but he still doesn't beat Evans or Hedlund.

Evans has the most advantages out of the candidates left. He has the best build, height (Hedlund is taller yes, but Evans is perfectly between RDJ and Hemsworth, so it would be easier to make Thor seem huge), a good look (beaten only by Hedlund), and has proven dramatic range and talent. F*ck the Fantastic Four movies. They sucked, would barely be remembered by the general audience, and Evans fits all the requirements for the role.

If not Evans, go with Hedlund. He has at least proven that he has talent with Death Sentence and I liked him in Friday Night Lights, but Evans has more advantages on him.

No Vogel, he looks boyish, is short and tiny, and doesn't make up for any of it with any great acting. Again, Evans has proven talent and range, Hedlund to a lesser extent as well. He just has too many disadvantages for me to support him over Evans and Hedlund.

And no to Bethel, he looks more like a Nazi than he does Cap.

In Other News, Absalom the Goldfish wasn't mentioned on this list, so I'm not convinced he was dropped from casting. NOOCH!

this guy is actually a decent actor, from what i've seen him in, and he kinda has the look. don't be hating on this guy...he would be a better choice than a LOT of the people that we've heard to be "up for the role" over the past month or so.

I havent seen anything that the guy has been in so I cant judge him in that respect. He looks the part anyway, so I guess that would be a bonus! (unlike a certain big nosed TV star who was recently suggested...) So far though, Chris Evans has got to be the best suggestion I've heard!

i think the BIGGEST BEST point was made in that interview with LatinoReview where they say that whoever Caps is, he needs to be a leader that even Robert Downey Jr. will follow! ryan is not that person.

I hate that boy face. I just saw Shutter Island this weekend. DiCRAPio has a boy face too. It is difficult to take their roles seriously. Mind you, this has nothing to do with their performances. I actually thought DiCRAP pulled off his role well, but isn't convincing as a hardened WWII vet that has spent some years as a Marshal. Point is, performance alone shouldn't be the determining factor for any role. Even for Phildwitpee

Phillipe looks the part and can act, but at 35 and a short 5'9", I can't see them casting him.

I don't agree with the concept that many of these actors can't be a leader to RBJ. You are assuming because RDJ is a better known actor that automatically means he can't be led by another actor. These guys are professional and should be able to act the part fine, which means RBJ should be able to act the follower just as well. Keep in mind Tony Stark wasn't the most open person to Cap being the leader, that should play off well in the Avengers, regardless of who is cast. If RDJ plays his role right, it shouldn't matter who is cast as Cap, but everyone is assuming that no one is going to be able to lead RDJ as Tony Stark and I don't agree with that. It's all unfounded speculation.

Phillipe has a much better build than Hedlund and some of the others in the discussion, so I don't why why his ability to bulk up is being questioned. The guy is in good shape.
