There's been a lot of back and forth from fans after news broke of Chris Evan's casting as the lead for
The First Avenger: Captain America. The majority of fan reactions have ranged from ecstatic to simply relieved; with a minority firmly against it. There is even a small faction of fans that believe this casting is a ruse, since it wasn't released from Marvel themselves. Some of this speculation has risen from a comment made by Captain America comic author Ed Brubaker several days ago:
Though there has still been no official notice from either Marvel Studios or Evan's representatives, comments from several people who maintain a close association with Marvel Studios have proven as confirmation. The first up to bat was
Iron Man and
Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau (also an executive producer for
The Avengers), who posted this message via his Twitter account within hours of the announcement:
The next, and probably most significant, comments come from Stan 'The Man' Lee. A Marvel company man through and through, Mr. Lee gave us these positive remarks; while adding his typical comedic flourish:
Stan Lee is known for taking any opportunity to publicly support Marvel and running with it. One deficient quality he
isn't know for is misleading his loyal supporters and Marvel fans. Taking into account his strong relationship with Marvel Studios, we can rest on the notion that if Stan says it is so, it most definitely is.
