Apparently Angelina Jolie Is Being Looked At To Direct WONDER WOMAN & CAPTAIN MARVEL

Could we see a bidding war between DC and Marvel? Angelina Jolie was rumored to be on Marvel's radar to helm Captain Marvel, and now Collider reckon she's definitely under consideration. But, Warner Bros. want her to replace Michele MacLaren on Wonder Woman too!

Collider reports that actress/director Angelina Jolie (Unbroken, In The Land Of Blood And Honey) is being courted by Marvel and Warner Bros. to helm both studios' first ever female driven movies; Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman. There were whispers of Jolie being looked at to bring Carol Danvers to the big screen a while back, but apparently she is now "definitely under consideration for the job. Marvel just set a couple of writers to this so it stands to reason that getting a director on board would be their next move.

We also found out yesterday that Michelle MacLaren had parted ways with the Wonder Woman movie over creative differences, so WB will obviously be searching for a director to replace her fairly quickly if they want to keep things on schedule, and word is they want Jolie as that replacement. With just a year between films, only one studio can win this one... that's if Miss Jolie even wants to direct either one of course! Collider make no indication that she's considering either job or if an offer has even been made yet, so we'll have to see what happens.

UPDATE: We now know Wonder Woman has a new director, so maybe Marvel won't have to battle WB on this after all!

Called it right when I heard there was an opening, haha....

I think I'd rather her direct Wonder Woman than Captain Marvel, I'd rather someone else taken on Cap Marvel

Is she really the best choice for either? I'm not she can't do a good job, but I think that a) there might be better female directors out there and b) they shouldn't look to just female directors just because they are female. They need to have a unique vision for these characters.

I wonder if Wonder Woman will get pushed back, I wonder what the deadline for a director is now, or if they even have a script ready

And in before someone mentions Joss Whedon. He doesn't like Captain Marvel. He prefers more flawed characters like Wasp, Tigra and the X-ladies (Kitty Pride, etc). Go read any of his past interviews about Captain Marvel.

"And in before someone mentions Joss Whedon. He doesn't like Captain Marvel. "

THANK YOU. People either don't know about Whedon's feelings on the character, or they just don't care. Either way, I can't help but roll my eyes every single time he gets fancasted for directing Captain Marvel.

@DrKinsolving

Wonder Woman begins filming in the fall, a while to go before it gets pushed back.

Alright, I believe that Kathryn Bigelow will not be directing, now; she announced in 2014 two movies she's working on. That's a handful, unless she pushes back one of them as part of an offer from Warner Bros.; very unlikely.

She'll direct Wonder Woman.

I'm not sure I see anything in her that lends itself to either of these movies...but still though, how cool is it for someone like Jolie to suddenly be in demand by not one major cbm studio, but two? Hopefully this is the start of a new trend for big-budget blockbusters. It's way past time already.

It's not as bad as people wanting him for Justice League.

True, that's in 4 months though, hopefully they have a solid script too and their not starting over after MacLaren

"Hey, this guy has directed a blockbuster about heroes coming together as a team...why can't he direct this OTHER blockbuster about heroes coming together as a team!?"

I swear, fanboys have no imagination anymore.

she could direct Wonder Woman and play Hippolyta

I'd make a prediction on who Marvel is eyeing for the director's chair, but they like to choose wild cards, so I'll try my best.

Get Jolie for Hippolyta too. Kills two birds with one stone.

Are they really just getting a female director just because they're female superheroes

Haven't seen Unbroken, but wasn't the response to that pretty mixed and citing Jolie's direction as a problem? I can't judge since I haven't seen the movie, but I don't think WB would want a mixed response to a WW movie. I say get George Miller for Wonder Woman or Doug Liman. Both can handle strong female characters well.

Pitt could pull off a great older Oliver Queen for the DCCU.

Pretty much. It just doesn't make any sense and his writing style wouldn't be suited for it. IMO, Whedon's style would work best with the X-Men. I would love to see a Netflix/TV series or film done by him. The property fits his strengths perfectly. Not to mention he's a major fan.

If Marvel is eyeing a female director for the film, then one my predictions is Penny Marshall in the director's chair.

"Most critics emphasised the good intentions Jolie had in making the film, but noted that the execution was poor, especially towards the end."

I would pass on Jolie.

But seriously, I haven't seen any of Angelina's movies, but I don't think she's done anything that shows she could handle either of of these two movies has she? For example, I know Unbroken got a pretty mixed response.

*Bites tongue and tries not to get drawn into yet another debate about this*

@Wannabe I don't know if Whedon's style would fit the X-Men in their present form, but if/when they reboot that franchise? HELL YES. He'd be perfect.

God please keep Jolie away from Wonder Woman. Her movies are self indulgent and mediocre at best. Ridley Scott would be my dream director. 1/2 Gladiator + 1/2 Ripley from Aliens = Nerdgasm
