CAPTAIN MARVEL: Clark Gregg Teases Agent Coulson's 90s Fashion Sense And His First Meeting With Nick Fury

Clark Gregg returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in next year's Captain Marvel and the actor has now shed some light on 90s era Phil Coulson and his "meet-cute" first meeting with Nick Fury...

Clark Gregg has been playing Agent Coulson for a while now but Captain Marvel will take him back to the beginning as we meet the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent during a time when he was just a rookie who had no idea that there are extraordinary people (and extraterrestrials) out there. In Iron Man, he actually told Tony Stark that this wasn't his first rodeo so will Captain Marvel explore what exactly he meant?

"This might be the rodeo," Gregg explains to Entertainment Weekly. "It’s one of them, for sure."

"There was something really special about going back to the early days when he was just kind of coming up the ranks," he continues. "I had to take innocence workshops and go back to when he was a little less crusty and jaded! He’s a relatively new S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who is obsessed with MC Hammer and dresses just like him, and it makes Fury so angry. The genie pants don’t really go with the Armani." Terrible fashion sense aside, it seems we'll learn a lot about his relationship with Fury.

Gregg describes Coulson's first interaction with the future S.H.I.E.L.D. Director as a "meet-cute moment," although, he adds with a laugh, "I don’t think Sam will put it that way." Are you excited to see this first meeting between the characters? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

What if we get some Jules/Vincent type of interaction between them? How awesome would be that?

Is it wierd that aside from an Avengers 4 post credit a tease Coulson is actually what I’m looking forward to most?

Is he going to have long hair and go by the nickname Cheese, like in the comics?

It's amazing how much the Coulson character has grown. He has easily become one of my favorites in the MCU, possibly THE favorite.

Am I the only one that just cringes at the idea of them going too overboard with the "clueless fashion faux pas of the time played up for a gag" thing? I dont want Coulson showing up with a Kid N Play high top fade and giant clock necklace just to elicit a laugh from the audience, when I dont picture the Coulson wave seen this far having that kinda history.

Basically what I'm saying is I dont want them to betray him as a character and ham up his past just for a schlocky moment of levity. Same with Fury. These 2 characters became high level agents of Shield by being bad asses, and I dont want them to be bumbling bafoons for humors sake just to say the events of the Captain Marvel movie made them into the people they would become. I would hate that.
